I am trying to disassemble the wheel side of a 300zx in order to replace the rotten axle boots. I removed the clip that it shows in the fsm and then proceeded to get my biggest slide hammer of approximately 8 lbs. and I slammed the shit out of it and the end of the axle just would not budge.

I believe the 240sx axles are basically the same so if anyone has replaced the axle boots they would have had to disassemble this part of the axle.

If anyone has successfully disassembled an axle I would really like to know how you got it apart.

That is exactly what I did. I used the slide hammer and it did not move at all. Have you disassembled the wheel side end of the axle the way you described?

yes. remove wheel, take center nut off, remove bolts from diff/axle, move axle out of the way(away from diff) bang that shit out

Dude thanks for trying to help, but I guess you are not understanding what I am asking. I don't know how I could state it any clearer. I am not trying to remove the axle that shit is easy as hell. I am talking about "DISASSEMBLY" of the axle.

If anyone knows how to disassemble an axle. I would appreciate your input.

Just get another axle at the junkyard.

You go try and find a 300zx tt axle in the junk yard. And any axle that came on the car originally in my area is going to have rotten boots.

i know on a 240 that there is a cover on the differential side of the axel. its like a cone shape. u have to bang the CV joint up and down to remove the cover and then remove the spider assembly that holds the bearings inside the joint. when removing the spider assembly, there is a snap ring you have to remove and then u use a pulley puller to take it out.

this is only for a 240sx and ive done it before to replace the boots. here is a FSM for the s14 on how to disassemble the rear axels.
