why is the newest Acura TL so fucking ugly

barf. i've known of their ugliness for a while of course. but i saw one today that was an SH. and i can't find a good picture on the internet, but the godawful design even spills over into the badging. the regular "acura" and "tl" badges are level, and close to the top of the trunk lid. but the "type SH" badge is lined up with the bottom edge of the trunk lid, so it's on a wild angle and nowhere near the other two. it's fucking clownish.
look at this ugly piece of shit. it has a beak.

edit: i had that backwards. the top two badges are on some goof-ass angle, but for some reason the SH badge is perfectly level, even though it's right next to that pointed trunk edge that's going to kill somebody in ten years when the struts fail.

The new one just doesn't add anything positive imo.

Not feeling the exisiting lineup of Subarus, or at least not in the looks dept.
It's not offensive, but the current Impreza is too conservative for the type of car that it is.

Think 2011 yr WRX's get a wider stance & STi aero.
STi gets a sedan.

I've been saying this since the first Beak Acura came out. Honda has completely FUCKED up the Acura line. IMO every car looked better in the previous gen. I think Acura has THE worst design language on the market. You couldn't say that for a fact back when Kia and Hyundai were still making ugly ass cars, but now they have hired serious designers their shit makes the Hondas/Acuras look like complete assholes.

Have you guys seen the 2011 Optima!? No, seriously? And the specs are amazing. It's the same car as the Sonata. BTW I'm not comparing a Acura to a Kia/Hyundai other then styling.

They USED to do that. Then they hired a top designer and their designs are infinitely less derivative then they used to be. The reason it looks similar to an Accord in spots is because a lot of cars look similar due to aerodynamics being taken into consideration during the design process. Also because the Accord and Camry, Altima, etc etc are all pretty similar looking over-all. Again, a lot of that having to due with aerodynamics but also because of the main demographic of these cars is looking for an appliance, not a fashion statement.

The entire line of Acura is so Fugly. The best Acuras were the 3.2 TL Type S and the Mugen RL. I think that Acura designers were given a Ruler and a stencil with basic geometric shapes and Krylon chrome/metallic spray paint as motivation.

It's not just the center grill, everything about it is a turd. Look at that huge bubble-butt hanging off the back. The grill is huge and juts way too far out. What's up with the little Aston-Martin ripoff grill opening at the bottom of the bumper? Not only that, it doesn't seem to line up with anything else. Wheel/tire combo looks incredibly cheap. This car has no redeeming styling features whatsoever.

Honda/Acura is definitely screwing up their entire lienup. I for one, have always like the current Civic, at least in the 4-door version, I think it is very crisp and modern looking whereas the previous generation looked very cheap. Cant wait to see how they screw up the next one.

Toyota/Lexus styling has gone way down too. They've gone full tilt with Bangle's Flame Surfacing, and they just aren't doing it well. Their cars are just covered in random creases that don't flow together in any cohesive manner, and Toyota keeps slapping the exact same front end on everything now.

yeah that's not doing it for me.

i know up at the acura dealership by my house, they were painting the entire grilles body color to make them less fugly. it looks alright on black i guess, but yeah, just an ugly car all around.

I've got an '05 TL manual... and after living with crazy bad tq steer for a while now... I can only assume that in order for all the manuals to be AWD in the new generation, they had to make it look like a confused triangle to keep the overall value that you're buying around the same level.

On the new ones the front does make me cringe, but the back makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

heres an idea... most ricers GENERALLY drive hondas..and ricers like some ugly ass shit...and honda = acura...so maybe honda owners are the ones coming up with the designs? lol

The front end has been improved, the grill has certainly been toned down. There is also now a crease that runs across the front bumper, breaking up the giant flat surfaces it used to have. The back end is still ugly and gigantic and looks to be about 5 feet tall, but they couldn't really do anything about the size in a refresh .

I like that the headlights look like they are more from the previous gen, but the grill still looks like shit. At least the other version OWNED the fact that it's ugly. This version is trying to fix it and they realized they can't. There's still too many forced shapes, lines, and creases on the whole car for me to say it's even mildly attractive.

The Optima still makes this thing look like a total pile of shit.

Anyway, I like Acuras. We've had an RSX-S and currently have an 08 TSX and liked both very much, but the new ones are hideous. I'm hoping for an attractive RL redesign, so maybe I could get her that.

What they need to do is a RWD platform and stop pussy footing around with this FWD crap. The only reason I bought this TL was because it came in AWD. If the only option was FWD I would have passed.

This is my 2nd TL, first was a 1999, and my last one was good to me. I love my TL now since there is nothing like it on the road and it handles like a dream considering the type of vehicle and its size. Although.... it has nothing on my S13 :)

The latest version of the TL with the MT is a great mix of luxury and performance. I'm not a huge fan of FWD due to torque steer, but Honda did a great job balancing it out. I was very impressed how such a big car felt nimble. In terms of looks, EVERYONE agrees the grill is ugly...
