Hi guys and gals,

I recently purchased a 1993 Nissan 240SX SE Hatchback for $1000. Since it's a 17-year-old car, it has some issues that need to be addressed. The previous owner was a good friend of mine and he used it on the track once a month. Therefore, it had racing suspension, racing seats, brembo brakes, full catback exhaust system, turbocharged KA24DE engine with 180k miles (pretty high, I know) and more of racing stuffs in which I don't know.

1. The A/C doesn't blow cold air. He just asked me to charge it up with Freon. I'm kinda skeptical about it because I had the same issue in the past with my old car and in the end I have to replace a compressor, which wasn't cheap at all. How do you determine whether the compressor works or not?

2. The engine idles very roughly. What could be the problem? Is it gonna be something major?

3. He mentioned that there is an oil leak, but if the engine is topped up with oil regularly, it doesn't matter at all. Is that true? Is there any way which I could fix this?

4. Where could I get a second hand dashboard and side mirror? The dashboard and the left side mirror is cracked. Also the cruise control does not work, and he told me it could be a faulty relay switch. Where could I find one?

5. He said probably the shocks need to be replaced soon. Where could I get them for less?

But other than that, the car runs smoothly and I absolutely love it. It's been almost 2 years now since I've driven a sports car and adrenaline rushed through my veins as I drove it.

Hopefully I would not regret buying it :rl:

u must be joking with this thread?? ...

Welcome... Flame on!!!
U must have some common sense for this...
1. Take it to a shop to get the Ac tested
2. Maybe a vacumm leak , but since u will be at the mechanics for step 1 have them check
3.find the leak , and problem will be fixed
4. On craigslist, junk yard, Silvia for Sale section
5. U can find stuff cheap online just search

Do you know anything about cars at all? I'm guessing not in which case either research and use the SEARCH option and find the answers to all the questions you just asked or drop it off at a mechanic that you trust and save yourself some time.

when you charged your ac system the last time did you use one of those charge packs from like autozone or something. you need a real ac system to watch pressures on the low side and high side. or your f.o.t. when bad and caused you compressor to keep cylcling it on and off and wore it out. the ac system i personally think you need a shop unless you have the equipment you need to fix it which is a machine and better then average knowledge of the ac system cause sertain parts of the ac system should be certain temps. and can be diagnoesed with touch.

there are many things that could cause a rough idle. but it could be a vacuum leak or your egr could be stuck open. many different causes....

and go to napa and ask them for the die you can put in your oil and use a black light and the glasses like csi and you will see where the die is leaking from and it would be a florescent color.

for the other stuff local parts yard or someone that has extras
