240 vs VR6

Stock for stock....last night after some heavy drinking for Canada Day I was coming back from mc donalds (my friend driving my car)

and we raced this guy at the lights that I go to school with who has a VR6 golf

my friends driving and im in the passenger seat and we killed him. He started gaining on us around third gear though..

was he not trying?

An A3 with a VR6 should run mid 15s stock, and a 240SX will run anywhere from 15.8-16.1 usually.

No wonder he pulled in 3rd - The power difference was becoming apparent after a poor take-off on his part.

i smoked a "chipped" audi 1.8t before. I don't think a VR6 would be too much faster than that (if at all).

My friend has a new chipped VR6 and I am sure I will be racing him soon, but my 240 is heavily modded so I don't think he will stand a chance. At least I hope not or I will get some serious sh$t.

well nitekids, why don't you really tell us how you feel about VW's. Everyone has their own opinion. I have owned nothing but VW's since I was 15 and loved them all. Maybe not the powerhouses that you can obtain with Nissan's engines but they are coming around. Still a well built car.

which VR6 are you talking about?
the new 24V VR6 has 201hp, 190-something lb torque...
the 12V VR6 has 174hp, 175lb torque...

the R32 VR6 has 240hp, AWD

in any case, stock for stock any VR6 should walk away from you pretty easily.....the VR6 can be heavily modded, lots of aftermarket support and a relatively light and compact engine for being a 6 cylinder.....my friend has a 500whp Turbo VR6 that no one can touch around here....WS6, SS Camaros, Z06 Corvette, etc...

also depends which chipped 1.8t you were racing too...theres a 150hp and a 180hp stock motor...with a chip, intake, downpipe, exhaust expect for that car to gain at least 40-50hp, and about 75-90lb torque:eek:

And no matter who smoked who in just one single race...fact is, an average 'chipped' Jetta 1.8t runs consistent 14.8s, with no other mods. Audis are a little slower, but the Golf/GTIs are a little quicker - And not many 240s are in the 14 second range without forced induction or nitrous...

Nitekids makes the most ignorant comments i have ever heard. While VW's are also not my personal preference they are in no way the biggest "pos car on the planet". And neither are hondas. Both are reliable, well built, and have several models that would smoke a 240 stock for stock. Especially for autocrossing, both of those cars are amazing. either you're car is turbo as well or it wasn't a 1.8t, or he simply didn't push the gas pedal. a stock 1.8t will smoke a stock 240. And a 1.8t with just a chip would be running 210 hp and kill a 240....

i'm too lazy to read all the other responses, but fact is.. a stock 95 VR6 GTI can run a 15.0-15.3 in the quarter if driven properly. no stock KA 240 will touch that period. on the freeway that VR6s powerband is just nuts. i raced my friends VR6 from about 60-90 and he just pulled on me like crazy through every gear even with me getting a halfcar jump (i have intake/header/exhaust and my engine is running great).

i think a more balanced race would be the stock AWD/AWP 1.8T GTI (180hp) against a stock SR20det redtop....

btw, VW underrates their hp figures...since my friends bone stock 1.8T pulls 175whp or so....

given the same amount of mods to both cars, things would get more interesting.....

there are several people out there who have built 400whp 1.8T motors on a stock bottom end/internals on pump gas!

in any case, any stock VR6 would win over a stock KA24de....put up a stock 12v VR6 against an SR20det though, the SR20det would win..
put up a stock 24V VR6, would be just about even with a stock redtop SR20det
put an stock R32 VR6 motor against a stock Redtop SR20det, the R32 VR6 would kill it....but put it up against a Black top SR20det, it would be a lil balanced....

all in motor context.....its up to the driver, duh!
just putting things into reality....

i swear, some SR20det owners are just like 1.8T motors...they think they have the fastest motors on the planet....:rolleyes:

my old 83 gti would have smoked lots of your SR equipped cars. it was about 200 hp and weighed around 1900lbs. and only had 4 cylinders, with no turbo. (2.1 16v with twin weber 40dcoe's and a bunch of headwork) there are plenty of people running around with 1.8t sciroccos or A2 GTi's, or VR6 A2 GTi's, or superchargerd/turboed vr6's...say what you want about their reliability but they are definitely FUN cars. my scirocco is my 5th.

as for how fast a vr6 golf is - it depends on the year. A3 GTi's are quite fast, 0-60 in 6.5 or so, 12v A4's are not nearly as fast, but the 24v vr6 has fixed lots of that especially because they're 6 speed.

I have a MKIV GTi (old GIAC) chip and intake, and will race any similarly equipped SR or KA, just for the record. No offense to any of you guys, but 240SX's are slow cars. They look great, RWD, have lots of potential. Even though I'm getting a 5L Mustang GT, I don't go around saying "Nissan Sucks" "BIggest POS evar", etc. Even though a 5L would rape a 240SX stock, let alone a SR20DET. If I throw some gears and an exhaust on the Stang, it'll be running low 13's on street tires.

My point is, don't make fun of other companies. 240's easily outhandle my Mustang, and I acknowledge that. I personally think both cars are really nice looking. It all comes down to basic respect man.

hahaha I would not be so quick to say something like that . 1. Nissan underestimates their horsepower figures as well. I know several people with stock SR's with downpipes turning out 210 at the wheels on stock boost. Your 5L is heavier car. SR's stock run high 13's so its not hard to get one into the low 13's.
people SR's have a lot of potential and for a stock 2 liter four they are nothing to sneeze at.
No I am not claiming my engine is the greatest or most powerful but for all the haters fact is it is a most well used engine in Japan to the point that even specialty car makers over there opt for it for a powerplant.
Reason? incrediable ,reliable bang for the buck. Responds to tuning well and is capable of holding up to 450-500hp on stock bottom ends,
That said there are other Nissan engines and car engines I feel are superior to it.
I am in no way going to dis it or put it down. It has earned my respect as a engine plain and simple.
As far as VW's go ? Decent cars good engines . Totally different class of car froms ours and should not even be compared in the first place . come on people grow up. Life is not about street drag racing . Go to a track , go drive in autox , go drift, go to a drag strip.
