Looking for someone to come down to my work and retap the spark plug wells on my head. It's currently only #3 but If the others need a retap I'd like to do that as well.

Let me know prices and when you can come out, I'm in the city of Compton, CA 90221.

Thanks!

I think the problem you're going to run into is that you need to remove the head to retap the thread because there is a huge possibility that a helicoil needs to be inserted if you somehow stripped the head.

You cant really tap it while the head is on for one because the tap will contact the piston, and two all of the metal shavings will sit on top of the piston which could essentially damage the valves during operation.

So 1 fix could case about 4 other problems.

My first suggestion is to pull the head and take it to luisgonz (hit him up on so-cal drift) Or I can give you his phone number so he can give you some pricing. But he's not going to come to you and will probably tell you what I just did if you try to have someone that will do it for you regardless of the consequences.

Nobody wants to be responsible for a damaged motor.

Sure, PM me his number if you can.

But you did help me just by answering that question. Getting the engine wherever I need to take it is not a problem.

Does he do engine/head work? I'm thinking about... redoing the internals... all stock (only gonna be running ~300whp)

OE Head Stud Kit
OE Main Seal
OE Rear Seal
OE Rings & Bearings (if necessary)
Apex'i Head Gasket

My question is if he's capable of installing/diagnosing all of this? (which i'm sure he is if he can work on the head)

don't want to step on anyone's toes
but this isn't that big of a deal
pull a sparkplug and get the diameter and thread pitch
go to local hardware store and get the tap needed
think harbor freight sells a set really cheap with tap handle included
as Wayne pointed out, it's risky, you could drop metal shavings on top of the piston
that's not good
I would suggest soaking the tap in WD40 to act as a lubricant and to
keep the metal removed stuck to the tap
but again, take this with a grain of salt

btw, putting helicoils on sparkplug threads is a great idea
whenever a motor is appart

Along these same lines, you can also put a lil grease on the channles of the tap to help the shavings stick to the tap.

- Are the threads shot? does the plug get tight like normal ,or it wont even start straight ???

To the OP I build motors also ,if interested PM me,if not ignor,PEACE OUT
