I Went to the local Long Beach Formula D Event this weekend and had a special chance to talk to Daijiro for about an hour or so and Alex Pfeiffer... It was super interesting learning about the different driving styles and set-ups people run to be the TOP Of THE TOP... so i had to ask them what was the best set up to be competitive in wining events and maybe to score some sponsors to help with my never ending dream to be in Formula D.... So i told them about my 1992 240se Coupe with my stock sr20 with a boost controller and full race exhaust and megan track suspension (AKA best bang for the buck)... Alex pretty much told me not to waste my money building an s-13 because for the money you will spend making an old car modern, you can pick up a used 350z for about $10,000 and just need to put track suspension and LSD to win local events and maybe later on put on a turbo kit to push 500++ to competitive with the Formula D drivers...

Then Daijiro told me that i should just put money up for a LS2 and spend the money necessary to redo the whole suspension and go pro with my s-13 coupe...

so to get to the point in a few months or so i am coming up on some money to put towards this project and just wanted to ask my fellow Zilvia Buddies what information and suggestions might some of you guys have for me??? Please explain...

Heres a tip don't open two of the same exact threads. Many others aren't going to be so nice in there responses to this but fuck it you need shit hand fed to you. If you think you can afford to make payments AND modify the z I'd say you're pretty well off for an 18 year old, insurance will be high whether you have tickets or not, the z is 10x the car the 240sx is but its also bout 10x the price in value, parts for the z are much more expensive, and forced induction will cost you a pretty penny. if you can stay away from payments do it, AND don't base your whole life on what a professional driver says. they have the money you do not, as well as, this is more of a NICO question anyways

ANNDDDDD dude you're 18 do you really want to waste all your money on a car? slowly you will realize that there is more to life than whos got the faster car or who can drift better, trust at 18 I thought cars were all i'd ever want but shit gets old, never being satisfied, buying overpriced parts just to impress otherr people, its nothing but a big nutswinging competition for the most part, and whoever has the most money invested is usually who gets more "props" who gives a fuck what some pros say man. have fun with your car, stop worrying about going pro.

and why the heck do you call yourself tokyo jack?

your zilvia "buddies" won't smile on you making duplicate threads on a retarded subject like this.

why are you worshiping the pro's advice? while as good intentioned as it may be they are honestly telling you how it is if THEY could start over again and do it differently the first time around. they all started from somewhere humble like you are now too. so what is wrong with your s13? cuz NOBODY drifts an s13 anymore? cuz you need a fully BUILT s13 to compete in an event? cuz you are ABSOLUTELY going to win for first even out? check your shit at the door kid. this is the industry nowadays telling you what to do, what to buy, and how to live.

if you are honestly grown up enough to understand a budget, car payments, LIVING/SUPPORTING yourself + spending money to modify a car...well then go for it. but hey when we see a new FS/FT: 350z for s13 thread, don't go crying to anyone.

seriously grow the fuck up now, stay in school, and get a solid 5-figure job right out of college...then actually be able to afford a real toy. by then the 240 fad will be over and nostalgic. some new fad will have turned up and you can flush your money down the toilet doing that. also why the fuck did you sign your post tokyo_jack? that's gay as fuck. THANKSBRO

this is more of a NICO question anyways

Like hell it is... It would get locked pretty quick after a short but deserved flaming over there.

OP, there's more than one one to skin a cat, as they say. Certainly, both routes offered to you are good ones, but what you should do really depends on alot of individual decisions. What can you afford? What fits your driving style? Is this car gonna see any street time? And many other considerations...

In the end, you gotta do your research to find out why some ppl feel so strongly about certain platforms and whether those reasons fit your needs as well. Don't just accept ppl's words as the god spoken truth.

first things first... are you even decent at drifting that you want to start building up? before you can go sideways in a fast car learn to control what you have no one is born a drifter, or anything for that matter. learn on what you have right now and slowly upgrade it.. you will spend lots of money on it but i guess once ou get the hang of a sr in a 240 you will be able to get a 350z or swap an ls2(which i hate) into your s13 and go from there but just because two d1 pros said something doesnt make it gold. if you jump right into a 350 or an ls swap you will have way too much power for an amateur drifter. i have a bmw with maybe 90hp to the wheels and im still having fun with it. its never what you drive but more how you drive. you can go buy a 350z dump 5 grand or more into a good track suspension then your out about 15 grand and you will put it into the wall your first time then what? stuck paying for a car you wrecked.

Why buy a car that will cost a crap load of money for upkeep and replacement parts when you wreck it because you can't even drift yet? I bought my S13 for a reason, it was cheap, parts are cheap, and I wouldn't give a fuck when I wreck it and have to get a new one. Seriously bro, not trying to be super mean, but keep your throwaway car, learn to drift, wreck it and learn to fix it man. That's how you improve your skills not just in driving but in wrenching. Just my /0.2.. and the tokyo jack thing... :bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

Keep with the s13 kid. I've had 350z's and I'm going on my 2nd 240. Keep the 240 and spend that money into spare parts and buildidng a 240 is just as expensive as a 350z. You will spend 12-14k for a Z in good shape and to make a car race ready you will need the same amount of money and parts you put into your s13. I just saw a single cam 240 N/A out drift a 350z with a supercharger down at spring moves, so you decide for yourself.

Do you really think that they cared what you have for a vehicle?

They are both really nice people but honestly, they are asked that same question a million times a week by the same kids like yourself.

.001% of all of us will be "pro". Do it for the fun. Keep the s13, Go smash it up and work on school and a career.

Cars are money pits.....PERIOD.

Yea I bought a Z for daily and now I want to sell it....just to finish my KA24DET faster. Speaking of the Z, I will be posting a FS thread on it soon.

I only skimmed the first post, let me know if I miss anything.

Age: 18

Name drops: Two

Dreams to "go pro": check

Wants "zilvia buddies" to hold hand and tell him what they think he should to with HIS money, so he can score some sponsors and go "pro."

Did I miss anything? Because none of the above elements gleaned from the first post leads me to believe that this thread will go anywhere of substance.
