ok so if you look at the crank angle sensor with the plastic part facing you turning the CAS to the right would be advancing your timing right? then of course left would be retarding?

Better yet, get a timing gun before you play with it to see where your timing is at. Doesnt take much to cause your engine to ping and chew out some rod bearing.

Timing is the most critical thing on Nissans for both reliability and performance.
2-4 degrees off on your timing and you will be 50-100 whp off on your output!!!

Get a timing light, and a 12 mm socket with rachet
Hook it up to the black diagnostic loop on the back of the ignitor coil harness for signal or the no.1 ignitor coil signal wire.
Then shoot it at the crank while the car is idling between 750-950 rpms and make sure it's pinned at the 2nd mark from the right (standing in front of the engine bay looking towards the back of the car). If it's not adjust and tighten it down.
if you're using a stock ecu make sure to unplug the TPS before chekcing the timing, check and then plug it back in once you're done

my timing light has a notch on the back of it with numbers from 0 to 60, do i set it at 0?

Yes set it to 0 unless.
