So I ordered both front calipers from an auto parts store and upon returning home I measured the calipers. I should have measured them at the store, one of them is the 26mm that I ordered and the other is the 30mm caliper. Both aluminum. Now the questions.

Other than the space where the rotor resides, is there a difference in the calipers?

Should I just take the 30mm back to them and ask them to get another?

I was toying with the idea of just using them and seeing but I don't really like the idea of mismatched parts.

Bonus question: What MC should I go with for the 300zx front only with stock 240sx brakes in the rear? I will be searching after this post. Figured I would throw it out there if anyone was gonna answer the other questions anyway.

Take them back. 30mm and 26mm calipers each use different rotors.

But why? Is it just the difference in the width in the middle or are the pistons actually farther away from each other? Off to measure again.

Yes, I will be taking the 30mm back BTW. Just still curious.

take back the 26mm dude the 30mm is worth more and the 26mm parts are harder to find since its it was only available one year, the difference is the with it used a 26mm rotor and the other ones uses a 30mm rotor

So yes the difference is the rotor size used. The question wasn't what rotor each one used. As the names designated to each caliper is due to the rotor they use. So obviously I know that one uses 26mm and one uses 30mm. I wanted to know if there was a physical difference other than the measurement commonly used to identify the calipers, which is the "carved out" area toward either end of the caliper. I didn't know if the difference was just added material in the middle or if there was more "cut out" to fit a different rotor with the pistons staying the same distance from each other.

The answer is that the 30mm caliper does have the pistons slightly farther apart to make room for the larger rotor. So apparently they added material in the middle.

I want the 26mm cause I want to use the stock 4-lug wheels in winter. I suppose I could just run a spacer though.

well only difference is depending on what wheels your running you'd most likely need a spacer to fit the 30mm, might aswell just run 30mm on both sides
