I have an S14 with an SR20DET. This is a fresh swap from my S14 that I wrecked and swapped the motor into another S14 chassis.
The cars starts and runs. It starts up fine then once the revolutions come down it runs poorly. The car is running rich and throws some black smoke. The timing is way out too. I have check and/or replaced the following.
1. Check and replace the MAFS with a new unit.
2. New temp. sensor
3. New spark plugs
4. Check CAS with valve cover off to make sure it is set correctly.
5. Performed a leak test with a SMOKER and nothing is leaking anywhere.
6. ECU is throwing a 55 code.
I am out of ideas and thing to check. Can anyone help??

Maf wiring is jacked maybe. Check voltage on the white wire at idle .

The wiring is brand new from wiring specialties (Yury) He hooked up the Z32 MAF plug himself and I even called him to double check the wires.
make sure the pins are straight and not bent and that there making good contact.

R_G I will check the pins again tomorrow but I don't thin they are bent. The MAFS is brand new.

How did you check your timing? Did you actually use a timing light? I would start with timing and pulling the fuel rail off and checking it for leaks. Also check and make sure all of your grounds are hooked up.

check your coolant temp sens., make sure you have good grounds, check your ecu for grounds also

LayNlow - Timing is way off. I have checked timing and the CAS by removing my valve cover and making sure all points align. When I check with a timing gun the timing is way off. If I put it on 15 degress the CAS is all the was it can go.
All grounds are good
Lazysk8er2 - The coolent temp sensor is brand new and grounds have been check.

You answered your own question. Your timing Is fucked. Re-time It and you should be good to go. make sure both cams are timed correctly and the cas

Maybe I was misunderstood but the timing has been double check and set with the valve cover off! The points line up correctly! I have taken a timing gun and check timing and it is out. Something is throwing off the ECU. The CAS and all points line up perfectly.

If the cas is all the way to one side at 15 then it off. Should be set at top dead center. Should be in the middle between the bolts. Also did you do it on compression or exhaust stroke ? Which dot are you lining up first?

Mechanical timing is set correctly. The timing marks are set at top dead center. The problem i'm having is an ignition timing problem. The ECU must see something it doesn't like and is trying to compensate for it.

I switched the MAFS, ECU , & Injectors back to stock and the car is doing the same thing. I was a able to get a code from the ECU. The ECU is throwing a 12 code which is for the knock sensor. Will this throw off timing?

Yes it will. Knock controls timing if it hears anything. Put a 1 megaohm resister in the harness ecu side. See if it idles better. Also about the cas you still didn't answer my question is the cas set at tdc on compression or exhaust stroke.

Check: Igniter, Coilpacks, Cam Angle Sensor, and ECU...make sure the ECU plugs are all good and tight.

Hey what's a code 55?

I didn't check the timing personally so I don't know if it was set to the compression or exhaust side. From what I understand is that if set to the incorrect stroke the car will not even fire.
I replaced the knock sensor with a brand new one and still no luck the car cold starts perfectly then runs poorly. The only code I am getting now is 34 for the MAFS. The MAFS is a stock unit out of a running SR20DET and the wiring is hooked up correctly. White wire is SIGNAL, Black is GROUND, & Black/white is POWER.
We have check for fuel, ran the smoke machine, all electrical sensors are good. We have also check the car's body harness to make sure nothing is hooked up or shorted that could be affecting anything. Could this be wiring? The wiring harness is a brand new wiring harness from Wiring Specialties but it the very first one. Any Ideas?

Hey what's a code 55?
Code 55 is - Other Malfunction. CONSULT Terminal Required.
I am not getting this code. The only code the ECU is reading is 34.

Yes the IAC valve has been checked and is working. The car fires up and idles high normally but when the RMP's drop it starts to act up. I have unplugged the IAC valve and it will not cold start.
I am still getting code 34 which is knock sensor. The knock sensor is new along with the sub-harness.
