Quick Recap of what San Diego Club Racing is all about:
SDCLUBRACING is a chance to let just about any car race in a competition series with a baseline purse of $300 or more (number goes up with more sign ups, sponsors/donations) cash prize open to anyone that has $25 and 300+ treadwear tires. Tired of being beaten by guys that spend tons of money on expensive sticky tires? Check out sdclubracing.com and get a chance to even out the playing field. From minivan to two door sports
cars, if it's in good shape, you have a shot at winning! Sign up today!
If you are not interested in racing your car, you are welcome to come join us and just watch, or help out as this is all a non-profit event. If you are just watching, you can also get rides, at both the drag racing and autocross portion of the events. I'm also looking for some sponsors to help with trophies, stickers etc. It doesn't take much to sponsor this event.
For the people that like to know what is going on ahead of time, here's our format. Please note that we are the mercy of Barona Drag Strip for the drag racing events, so providing the weather isn't a factor, these are our locked in race days:
1st Race Autocross - Febuary Sunday 21, 2010: Qualcomm Stadium- Tech and Registration 8am-12:30pm
We will pick the fastest time out of the official timed laps for that day. Cones will count against you, 2 seconds each cone will be added to your lap time. DNF (did not finish) and instructor driven runs will will not be counted.
Bring Some cash to pay entrance fees for SCCA $60 total. SCCA does not do any kind of discounts. Sign up for "X" as your classification. This may change if i can get us a separate class for our event. Next choose your run group and work group. You are allowed to run at any time as long as there is a Series official to check your car and sign you in for the day. if you don't sign in the roll call, your times may not be recognized in the score card.
If you are an SCCA member, total entrance fee is $30 for the day.
SCCA memberships can be purchased here: SCCA Sports Car Club of America (http://www.scca.com)
Pre-registered applicants fill out the appropriate forms, get a free t-shirt from Secor's Auto and a Secor's sticker, choose white or black. Sticker should be applied to car before racing (so series officials can easily keep track of your scores) anywhere you want.
You are to run in any group you wish, keep in mind you have to work for times to be counted.
Inspection of cars and tires: Tire inspection will be handled by myself or one of our SDCR volunteers; if your tires are 300tw or higher, you are in. if you show up with 299 or less, shame on you, but you can still participate, you will be in a different group than the 300 tire crowd. You will not be eligible for the $Cash Purse, points or trophy positions. Vehicle safety inspection will be handled by the SCCA track officials.
Helmets are available on site to borrow for free! Provided by the SCCA, located at the timing trailer.
To pass vehicle inspection, you need all loose items removed from your car, hub caps, floor mats, radar detectors, navigation units (there are no navigation units that can help you at time the writing of this bit ), no fluids dripping onto the floor, catch can for coolant, tires must not have metal showing, no loose wheel bearings, battery held down nice and tight, you need double throttle return springs if you are carbureted, (EFI has duel springs in stock form) no brake pedal that sinks to the floor common sense safety. If your car is well maintained and safe you should be ok.
Keep the noise level to 93 decibels at WOT. If you get a warning, you can deflect the exhaust away form the sound meter with ducting, or install a silencer or let off when you see the sound meter. If you don't do something about it in 3 runs, they will kick you out and your runs will not count.
No alcohol on premises. No drifting, unless you want to get kicked out and yelled at. Keep it professional and show manners to course workers, and be respectable. You are also required to be a course worker for one round.
The 2nd race is a drag race at Barona Drag strip: Sunday March 21st, 2010 Racing starts from 10:00 AM TO 4:00 PM,
The goal will be to have the fastest overall reaction time and lowest E.T. or time from start to finish. We will pick out the fastest time out of your three official runs. Your reaction time and run time are added together. Red light times are not counted. If you jump the gun in all three races, you're time is counted as slowest time of the day.
Entrance fee is $35 for SDCR participants. Normal fee is $40. Spectators are $10 each. I believe Drivers may ride as a passenger if they wish, as well as drive multiple cars. But ask the race officials before you do this.
Tech inspection is much more serious at Barona Drags!
If you run Nitrous, you need to have a certified flame-proof racing Jacket. Same vehicle inspection as SCCA, but more focused on tires, battery hold down, cut off switch (only if battery is modified to be in rear), double throttle return springs on carburated cars, windows that roll up or safety nets, no fluid leaks, radiator fluid catch can.
BRING YOUR OWN HELMET! Snell 2000 OR M2000 or newer! There are no loaner helmets or rentals for sale!
San Diego Club Racing series participants are required to run 300tw tires on the drive wheels! Non-drive wheels can run any tire within a reasonable safety margin.
NO NOISE LIMITS AT BARONA DRAGS! you can run open exhaust, as long as the flames will not be near anything that will burn. Don't be retarded and run open headers that lead to the brake lines etc... You will not pass tech inspection!
The 3rd Race is at Barona Drag Strip, Saturday April 3rd, 2010 7pm-12am,
We will change things up a little; All 3 timed passes and reaction times, will be added up to get a total number that will represent your points position for this event. any time you "red light" or jump the gun, you will get penalized. That lap time will be exchanged for the slowest, legit, pass time of the day plus 2 seconds. Doesn't sound like much, but if you screw up the launch and leave too early it will really mess up your chance of winning, even in an 8 second car compared to a 9-10 second car. It really puts on the pressure for everyone to push hard, and be consistent without jumping the gun. This is a special twist in rules similar in taste to bracket racing, but at the same time, new and more exciting.
Burnout contest! More info later.
Final Race is Autocross at Qualcomm Stadium- Sunday, May 16th 2010 Tech and Registration 8am-12:30pm
First car out at 9am.
We are doing rally style timing for the second Autocross.
All runs will be scored. The winner is determined by the lowest cumulative time. If a competitor does not finish a run (DNF) they will receive a default time. This time will be determined by timing and scoring using the slowest competitor’s time in class and run plus ten (10) seconds.
All the runs are added up together, including cone penalties and you will be penalized heavily for a DNF. Avoid getting a DNF at all cost! It's like as if you drove off a cliff, hit a guard rail, went off the road or hit a tree in a real world situation. Hitting cones can also ruin your day as they add 2 seconds each to your total time.
If you get a DNF, that means you took a shortcut or went off course without returning in the same exact location as you exited, or you took the slalom out of sequence or missed a gate etc. So in most cases its actually better to hit a cone or two, or take less chances to avoid getting a DNF. Smoothness, skill and consistency will get you a win in the second event. The driver who gets a quick time in only one or two of his laps, but was sloppy, spun out, DNF'd or screwed up in the other laps, may not do so well in this race.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks for reading!
