View Full Version : How much should I spent on a 240 hatch?

I've come to the conclusion that since I'll be spending the next 4 years in this area, I'm going to go ahead and try to buy myself something nicer than a '95 Volvo 940 and gradually build up. There aren't many 240s around here, and most of the ones that are have been riced out to no belief.
So I want to know what sort of price I should be looking at for a bone stock, 5sp, KA24, 89-94 (I believe) 240sx fastback
Thanks

To buy one in stock form, its gonna run you between $2k-3.5k (in good condition) These numbers popped up a lot when I was searching for my shell on Craigslist. But you might find one for cheap if you're lucky.

I'm sorry but if you're spending upwards of 2k in a stock 89-94 240 you're a fucking idiot (location is a SMALL factor). I spent 4 grand on my zenki back in 05 cause it was from texas and had one owner. These cars are not worth that much... actually If I found a clean vert I would pay the price for rarity but thats neither here nor there. Don't pay out the ass for a 240 its stupid. just like CleanandLegit said between 800 and 1600, and be hard when it comes to the condition of the car too.

How many 240s have you bought? Since 2005?

I bought an s13 hatch in 04 it got totaled when someone t-boned me. then I bought my zenki on saint patty's day 05'. oh and I bought a Jetta for a daily in the winter cause Boston sucks balls.
EDIT: if you're trying to rate my knowledge of buying cars (240 in particular) based on how many I've owned that's dumb too.
I've worked in my uncles body shop for years and I see cars come and go all the time. a 20 year old car that didn't even sell well in the first place is not worth that much.

So two 240s. One in '04 and one in '05. I'm not sure if you knew but the value of these cars (especially when tryin to snag one from a private owner) has went up since then. I agree with you that it is stupid to pay up the ass for a 240sx. One may have a different outlook on the value of their car as opposed to the next person. But like I said, Ive looked at a lot of 240s on Craigslist and a lot were $2k plus for a decent stock 240.
PS
Always ask for a carfax or get one yourself if you plan on buying any car. It will help you while you and the seller are talking business.

Most certainly agreed. I have been with my cousin buying 3 of his own since 06' and the private selling price has gone up exponentially. same with my car too. I hold a high value on it even though it doesn't look great, is loud and obnoxious, and really needs paint. however its important to remember that what we perceive something to vbe valued at is always skewed because of personal interest rather than hard fact.
haha good luck OP.
time to go flying!

another one of these threads huh....
I lol at the inevitable responses that one shouldn't pay more than $1000
I'll give anyone $1300 ($300 for your trouble) to find me a clean titled, unmolested, mint hatch.
how hard can it be?
no coupes though, they're disgusting.
