I just dropped in a SR20, the elbow is by "Top Speed" and was already on it.

Not normal at all, try installing a different elbow ie. Tomei, GReddy, or even Megan etc... Has the car ever been in an accident? Something doesn't look right here.
Good luck.

I just want to know, Who looks in there Engine Bay and Snaps a Photo... THEN has to contemplate if that is Normal .. I mean Look at it.. Does it look like it should be doing that???
Would you ask someone, when you took a Runny Crap, if it was Normal? Then showed them the picture?
Seriously Though, I mean it doesn't take a Rocket Scientist too realize that doesn't go like that.

What engine mounts are you using?
Stock, SR on driver side, KA on Passenger side, I had all four and picked the best of the bunch.

Car is mint, rust free, and I've owned it for over 6 years. Motor is from a Zilvia member who parted out after having his S14 totaled from a side-swipe.

How mature, from a moderator no less.
Then why have a web forum with a tech talk if we are not aloud to talk tech and question and answer.
Obviously I knew it was wrong, hence why I asked the question, and if you don't think good old fashion mechanics asked other mechanics about stuff then you are completely clueless.

this isnt a tech situation, more like a common sense situation, I.E. you know its not suppose to hit, YOU KNOW THIS...yet YOU asked if its wrong...really?
you need good old fashion common sense...

You ether swapped L&R or you have 2 of one side in. It also could be that they still are wore out.

most turbo elbows with a separate wastegate pipe won't clear the steering column on LHD cars.
if you get a different type of turbo elbow you should be fine.

No, they are on correct. I never pulled the driver side bushing off the motor and I replaced the SR passenger side one with the KA passenger side one.

Lifting the engine on the driver side...
Driver side mount is raised this high,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/Corbic/cd744487.jpg
to create this much clearance on the elbow.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/Corbic/a536dead.jpg
Is this level of clearance what is typical or acceptable? Could my mounts be that worn that they have compressed almost an inch?
This is while the motor is still lifted, same clearance as the above, but just another angle, looks like the previous owners car did rub as their is a mark on the elbow.

its the style of elbow. Mark it and dent it to clear.. or get a greddy style.

Would going to an aftermarket bottom-mount exhaust manifold help the situation?

No.
I had the exact same issue. This style is copied off of the Tomei divided style elbows made for RHD vehicles. Aftermarket bottom T25 manifolds.. if they are any good will place the turbo in the exact same spot.. therefore the elbow would be in the same spot.
Your options are 1. Dent it.. or 2. replace it with a nondivided style (greddy)

I'm in a foul mood, so bashing the hell out of it sounds pleasant right now, if that fails, Greddy it is.

I don't see anything wrong with what I posted. Not in any way immature.
I wouldn't expect a PREMIE to have to Create such a Poor Quality Thread...
Tech Talk, for REAL Tech Questions...
If you KNEW it was Wrong then why ask? Do you doubt your every action? I mean, do you have to have someone come over, Hold your hand, and show you the way to check your mount's/Elbow?
I know good Ole' Fashioned Mechanics ask a Higher level Mechanic questions.. But I think the Question would be alot more complicated then a Rubbing issue...( Since I have experience being a mechanic, I can vouch for that.. I can also vouch for the fact you take a question like this to a Higher Grade Mechanic in the shop you work at, and do not be surprised at the Immaturity that starts happening when they give you a bunch of shit and tell you to STFU and Figure it out yourself.. )
But then again, How would I know.... I am Clueless, Right?
By The Way .. It's ALLOWED, Not ALOUD..

research my friend. if it was correct, every company out there would sell divorced turbo elbows. EVERYONE knows that those type of jdm elbows dont clear LHD streering columns. only now are companies making the ones that clear. just do it right the first time and use the correct elbow.

I asked if it was "Normal" seeing I doubted anyone would run a car that way.
From the constructive post I've received, it is in "normal", it would appear the twin-tube designs do not clear LHD vehicles.
And bringing up grammar and spelling really is just off topic and unneeded.

Thanks, I know that now. As I mentioned, the motor was in a previous car and running, so I figured the previous owner did not have the same issue and it would have been something in my process.
I'm not claiming to be a mechanic or an expert, and generally I'm not one to have a problem with raising his hand when something seems off.

I have the same elbow... it rubs only when i let off the gas during a sharp turn other than that it never really bothered me.. also i think the divorce pipe actually makes your exhaust more quiet... because my exhaust became really quiet after the install of the elbow.

What would be the best turbo elbow to replace this with ??
I had a similar issue when the EGR pipe on the turbo elbow hits the column I just cut it off and wana get it replaced.

How did you even manage to pull off the swap??? Its pretty obvious turbo elbows dont hit steering shafts
