View Full Version : Tire Brands For Stretching

I've been searching through posts all day and haven't found a definitive answer.

Basically I'm asking which brands (and/or) tire models tend to have the smallest shoulder lip that goes over the rim lip and give a more stretched appearance on the same size wheel.

For example I'm running 255/40/19 Hankook V12 Evos on a 19x9.5 rim and they do not look stretched at all, but I was looking at some Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars same size on the same wheel and the lip of the rim was a little more exposed and the sidewall had a slightly more stretched appearance.

So my question is what tires have people experienced to have a more stretched appearance in the same size as other tires. I'm also considering going to a 10" rim all around with 255s all around.

255 on a 9.5 isn't stretched at all man.

Search owns you. And ya 255 on a 9.5 is not even close to a stretch. I have 215's on my 10" wheels right now.

This is an intresting thread.....I've never really thought about this concept. Personally I like the exact opposite of what you're looking for so in a way this applies to me as well. Currently I am running 18x9.5 wheels in the rear with 245 RE050 tires and they don't look to stretched so don't get them. In theory though I would think a skinnier tire with a larger sidewall would give you a more of a chance of having the stretched look. Good luck man:)

I've seen the extreme stretch thread and maximum fitment thread, but that doesn't really answer what i'm trying to address.

I know 255 on a 9.5 isn't exactly stretch, i'm not sure if stretch is really the right word for what I'm looking to do, I guess I am not a hundred percent clear.

What I'm looking for is the tires that the part of rubber that goes over the lip of the rim is kinda peeled back away from the lip as opposed to buldging over it.

I'll see if I can find some pictures, or maybe take some next time I go to the dealership.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 255/40/19 on 19x9.5

Hankook V12 Evo 255/40/19 19x9.5(My current Setup)

I drew some quick paint lines on the first picture to kind of show what i'm talking about. the sidewall has a little more of an angle to it toward the bottom and there is a larger separation between the lip of the rim and the the sidewall lip where as the second tire is more square and that separation isnt there.

probably just a fat rim guard.

get the same tires if you want to copy the look. or find another tire with a big ass rim guard. no guarantee they flare out the same way as the eagle f1's.

Rim protector is nothing serious, if you take some time you can cut it away. I'm sure there are some special tools that will make the job very professional

it doesnt sound like you want a "stretched" look, it sounds like you just like a tire without that rim protector, some tire brands have a thicker rim protector than others, from my experience falken are the narrowest, yokohama and federals are wide

For the money they are not bad overall i like the grip but feel like nt555s might have more overall grip.

Also just curious what size wheel would have to go to get a very mild stretch out of some 255s? Like a 10-10.5 or more?

I can vouch for federals sucking for stretch.... they definitely run big.

My goodyear gs-d3s stretch nice but not as grippy as other tires I've used.

haha what he said
if its a good brand it should stretch pretty nice but since your fitting a 255 on a 9.5 there is not much of a stretch check thru the tire stretching thread and compare pics.

BCT S800 Tire at WheelsNext.com (http://www.wheelsnext.com/tires/BCT-S800.html)

I paid $80 brand new for a pair of these at my local place. They busted out the cheetah and made shit happen.

These tires stretch SO good it's rediculous. The sidewalls dont even look strained and i cant touch the inner barrel with a credit card but i can fit a credit card between the tire and lip. The inner lips are fully exposed.

I'll get pics up when i can. 205 40 on a 17x9.5j No bullshit. I have so much clearance on my fc now. I dont regret choosing these over a 215. Dunno about grip but the fingernail test says they should be ok. They dont feel super tough like other brands of 340aa wear tires. Like kumho brand or nexen. W/E. I'm cheap but damn i feel i got more than my monies worth. I was worried they'd stretch like shit but they look great on my battles.

I autocross my car with Yokohama S.drives and got schooled by a guy with a GTI. I asked him what kind of tires he had and he said the Hankook V12's. So I know they're good for atleast some kind of action. Car and Driver rated them 2nd out of 10 affordable tires. Did the best for wet traction as well. I would reccomend them for a DD/ Light track duty.
