Whites the easiest and cheapest color to lay down.....Metallics are always harder and cost more....

Just go to Pac Auto Body in Long Beach and call it a day. Ozzy is the man and his shop does great work at a reasonable price.

Not a direct answer to your question, but it maybe a helpful reminder.
When you're shopping around, keep the old saying "you get what you pay for" in the back of your mind. It applies to bodywork better than most things.

Everybody has a different opinion as to what a "good job" is.

My idea of a "good job" is a super flat finish with zero distortion, zero waves in the paint/clear, and scratch free(some shops don't bother removing the finest of sanding scratches). Car taken 100% apart and panels painted inside/out as if you were doing a complete color change.

Something like that is going to cost me in the neighborhood of $4,000-$6,000 depending on how over the top I want to do it(full chassis repaint. interior, exterior, and engine bay).

Other peoples idea of a "good job" is 1-day paint that holds up for 2-3 years. 10ft paint job.

If it's a daily driver and you just want it to look good, go to macco and get a single stage white with integrated clear. It'll cost you about $800. There will be imperfections like fisheyes, orange peel, dry spots, over spray, ect. It's not gonna be perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it will look good unless you're looking for imperfections. If you want a show car like finish it's gonna cost you $3000 ++ and in my opinion is not worth it on a 20 year old daily driver.

When I was 19 I thought it would be cool to do a 3 stage house of Kolor paint job. I spent over $1000 on materials, another $1000 to rent booth time and $500 to have my friend who paints for a living do the job. I spent weeks stripping the car, doing body work and prep. Remember your paint job is only going to look as good as your prep work. After everything was painted, we had to color sand and buff it out, which took for ever. The car was flawless and looked amazing. About a week after I started driving it I noticed my first nick on the rear bumper. I wanted to cry.

I had Macco do a respray on a black 300zx and it looked really nice. Don't go for the cheapest option they have, but don't go overboard either. Here's what my Z looked like after the $800 macco job:

Friend just got a quote from a shop that does pretty good work
$4200 for oem color re-spray with the glass removed
we think it's a deal for a shop that usually works on lowriders

It's like getting a new cell phone. Are you the kind of person who leaves the plastic thing on the screen for a couple weeks? or do you just say F it and drop it on the first day so you don't have to pine over getting that first scratch?
