trying to repair it will just lead to it breaking again.

fix it right the first time, and be done with it, then know you will never have to F with it again.

Locking Aerocatch's will do the trick. take your time and plan it out, make sure you have a dremel tool with a sanding drum for shaping up the curves when your cutting the carbon. shit will turn out nice.

Dude,it's not gonna be reliable to fix it, the hood WILL pop open on the highway and you could end up in a major accident. Either hoodpins or new hood, don't half ass things that can affect your safety.

Hood pins aren't ugly.

Just get nice ones.

I like the sparco ones.

And Aerocatch looks good on cars that actually have an aggressive body line to match them.

Hood pins for sure. Don't trust yourself to some glue and broken hood.

If you have been running a carbon fiber hood with no hood pins, you are very lucky it has not yet flown up and ruined your car.

A lot of people with carbon fiber/fiberglass hoods do not even use the latch and just remove the entire mechanism, because it always breaks off sooner or later if used.

you seem pretty bent on gluing it. why did you even post a thread if your not gonna take very good advice? srsly.

aerocatches are perfect and they only cost about $100 if that for the locking type.

I noticed your info says your 19, so maybe you don't have past experience cutting carbon fiber, and also understand that glue might seem like the easy and quickest fix, but trust me. IT'S NOT SAFE! DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!

Buy the hood pins, take your time cutting the carbon fiber CAREFULLY, and enjoy not ever having to worry about your hood flying up because the glue let go.

yeah me and my sister bought the car with the hood already on the car with a latch. a few months later we were changing out the battery and the hood just wouldnt close all the way. but its still latched down so its not going to fly up. i still avoid driving it of course

I'm listening to everyones advice. I aready knew hood pins were going to be one of my options. Im just really stuck on the idea of fixing the latch. Trying to avoid hood pins but i guess it makes sense that if the glue didnt work the first time, its prob not going to work the second.

No we dont really have any experience with carbon fiber. thats why im actually posting this question in the forums so that someone who might know could help me out.

learning

but thanks a lot will def take my time and plan it out

thanks everyone

Pls go with hood pins or new hood like they said. I was on the passenger seat with my friend and his cf hoodpoped up on the freeway at 70mph. Didn't cause an accident, fortunately, but it was scary as fuck!

First thing I did when I got my CF hood was cut the latch off and install pins.

Aerocatch look great. Just remember measure 10 times, cut once.

You might be able to get away with some sand paper, acetone, and fiberglass resin.. Sand both surfaces so they are rough (use a 60 or 100 grit sand paper), wipe the area to be bonded clean with acetone and wait for it to dry... Mix the resin per the instructions and apply.. Try to clamp the piece together as strong as possible and leave it out in the sun for a while... Even better, replace the fiberglass resin with epoxy resin or 3m's DP-460 epoxy glue if you can find it..

But I also agree with everyone else and suggest that you should get some hood pins.. Some guy on the forum is selling aerocatch hood pins for like $70 shipped if I remember correctly..

If everyone is having their carbon hood latches broken off, why not stop for a minute and just apply another coat of glue over the existing latch, with like fiberglass resin or epoxy resin, or whatever else you want that is strong. I should buy hoods do a "recall" on them and resell for more.
