Ok so in the last few months I've been doing research on my next daily driver/project car type thing. This will take a while to finish off but I think it will be nice and worth it. Anyway the point of this thread is to basically list everything i want to do to the car and since there are many of you out there who might have done this before in one fashion or another perhaps you guys would have tips tricks or even definite "don't do this it doesn't work"s.

Ok first of all I'm going to get a 240 hatch and convert it to the silvia front end. I'm not a fan of any particular year besides it being an s13 and I'm much a fan of the sileighty. This is all taste so its really up to me as far as this goes. Now for the tech:

I'm going to swap the engine for a vq35 (perhaps i'll beable to find a high rev version but i'm not sure) and keep the vq transmission. I'm not sure what LSD mates well with this trans and still fits in the car, anyone have a clue?

Next, I'm going to try and fit 285 r17's or r18's up front and 335 r18/19's in the rear. I'm aware I will need to flare the fenders for this though I don't know if I will have to change the control arms or spacers or what. If anyone knows the answer to that question or knows for sure that without heavy duty mod's the wheels will not fit let me know.

I am planning on putting a light cage in it, and doing all the suspension work people normally do to these cars. I was thinking the kei street suspension, and for wheels something with a smilar look to the nismo wheels they put on the nismo 350z a few years ago (it was somethign simple like a 5 spoke design painted like bronze or something like that).

Now for the stuff I really haven't a clue about. First I know I'll be significantly changing the grip of the rear tires and as such perhaps the axles won't be able to take it and will need to be beefed, does anyone know for sure? (i'll probably add more to this section as I do more research)

Also to be posted sometime later will be my concept drawing of the whole thing. I'm not making it flashy but rather I want it to look like it came from the factory with all this stuff done to it.

sorry but you do not deserve your own thread for this. if you want to list everything you want to do, try using Excel.

Not just to list everything I want to do to this car, but also get feed back from people who have done similar things and know what works. I wouldn't have posted it up if I just thought I should list everything.

BTW I don't really care if you don't like Sileightys so your just going to get ignored anyway so you might as well not post...not that that will stop you.

Everyone has a pipedream. Few actually succeed in following through.

But most importantly, no one cares either way. If you have specific questions, research them using the search feature on this forum or google. If you don't find them then ask those specific questions. If you want to beat your chest about your hopes and dreams, find another forum to browse. We don't know you, we don't care who you are, what you've done, and we're not impressed by a laundry list of shit you just picked out of a magazine.

And finally, it is not a Silvia. It will never be a Silvia unless you buy the car from Japan. Calling it anything but a 240SX is stupid and ignorant.

This is an April Fool's joke, right?

That's a shitton of money you're talking about.

Search!
- VQ = custom mounts or buy them online
- buy wide fenders or.... whatever, i'm done spoonfeeding

Yea.... Good luck hope your dream comes true and also that u have a shit load of money that's growing in backyard that could be better spent than a v swap in a fucking sil80

This is exactly how I feel.

Actually the VQ engine swap requires:

Custom mounts
an adjustment to the crossbar(the engine is taller i believe)
a custom transmission mount
tons of specialty wiring and piping.
Not to mention a shifter relocation to keep you from cutting the floor to bits.

There is a kit to do this but i have access to enough of the required equipment that i'm reasonably sure I can do it myself (which will save me about 3 grand...which i'll then have to spend on tires lol)

I figured I would cut the fenders until the wheels could make the full motion lock to lock then use foam and fiberglass to build the fenders around them. My problem is I don't know if the depth of the inner fender well is enough to accommodate those tires even if I use say 8.5 width rims front and 9.5 width for the rear. I may have to not only flare the fenders but also reposition the strut mounts, get longer tie arms, ext. or i may be forced to barrel out the wells to give more clearance. I've never done this sort of thing to a s13 so I'm not sure of the clearances. I can't get a hold of the car yet to check so i figured someone on here might know.

I am fully aware of the scope of the task I am undertaking, both monetarily, and chronologically. I have no dreams that this will be done any time in the near future. I am how ever getting the car, and it will eventually turn into this monster that I am describing.

Now as far as clear concise questions lets start with the easy ones:

Whats the widest tire that fits under the s13 without changing the inner well? (for those of you who don't understand it, how wide can I go with only flaring the fenders?)

Will changing the tire width affect the IRS? If so will I be braking axles or will it be something more severe? If I will need to replace axles with something more capable would it be better to perhaps source the whole drive line from a 350z?

Does anyone have a list of LSD's that fit under the s13 chassis and still work with the VQ?

Is there a 350z/corvette brake swap kit for the s13? Or is something like brembo my only option for big brakes?(i realize i could search for this and i will but i figured while i'm asking questions i might as well ask the only one i haven't researched)

Silva fronts on hatches are ghey.

But thats just me, take a look around dude & youll find more information but there is alot of work involved in a VQ swap so do some research before you start making threads & sduch.

all of your questions can be answered by searching, fucking search and don't start a new thread.

Mizino,

Buy the Vehicle in Question 1st.
Once you buy your Vehicle and fix said Problems vehicle came with ( And Yes, Most S13's will come with Issues. ) Then Decide on next Course of action.
No Point in Listing a laundry list of Parts and Idea's for something that is not infront of you. Many of us have built car's from the ground up. Many of us know that you never know what you are getting into, even when you have the car. Which goes back to Statement Number 1.
It is Not a Silvia if you buy it in the US. It is a Nissan 240SX
Use the Search Feature on this Forum, It will save you alot of Grief.
Also - Who cares if he Puts a Silvia front end on a Hatchie. I don't have to drive it, neither does anyone else. It is personal preference.

Some of you have Stickers/Vinyl's/Bodykits/Spoilers/Wheels that I personal think are Retarded, BUT it's all comes down to the fact that it is YOUR Car and it's all about what you like.

That being said.... OP Go back to Statement Number 1..
