gee thanks....the only thing i can think of is to either manage heat better (grooves expand) or to limit traction but that doesnt make sense because theyre so big on safety why would they make it more dangerouse by providing less grip

I thought they only put those on when the track was went or soon to be wet. If that isn't the case, I don't know either.

no the wet tires have a v tread to pump out the water but these are the dry tires i can figure it out...

I didnt see the race today, but are you talking about the 4 groove tires? Those are to limit speed, and braking capabilities.

ahah thats retarded...why the crap do they wanna do that?

he's right, they were put on there like 5 years ago to keep speeds down, but cars are going faster now then when they made the grooved tires mandatory, so it doesn't really matter

The main idea behind that was to try to have closer races and more competition. However, it's not really the case, Ferrari and Schumacher always win.

Actually the reason they put the grooves on was to have less competition. Which wasnt why the mainly did it but was an effect of it. Everyone was driving to aggressive with the old ones, causing lots of dangerous accidents, so they put the grooves in to limit cornering ability, brake in zones, etc. Previously there were 3 but they upped them to 4 which seems to have done the job.

Why the #### would they want less competition?

F1 cars R so advanced and the drivers are soo good that they were/are able to do a lot of dangerous driving and get away with it often. This is great for raceing but bad for safety. When the greatest racer in your sports history dies people want more safety(ie neckcar after Dale died) the grooves in the tires was one of the solutions implimented. Since then the tech has grown so much that the little grooves really don't mean much anymore but they still hinder agressive driving more than pure slicks. I Know that this isn't the greatest solution but it is an effort and in the public eye it is then seen as a "responsible" effort by F1 officials. Thats good for F1 racing. U see it isn't LESS competition, it's (supposed to be) safer competition. ...........Yeah right like crashing at 240 mph can be safe!

Speaking of tires etc... I was amazed how many people are on Michelin now... bridgestone lost a lot of ppl... I wonder how they are spinning that internally. They still have ferrari which is good, but they lost like 3 teams. And how about Toyota having he fastest straighaways? That impressed me, plus 2 minardi's actually finishing the race, forget one of them was for points...

The michelins that Williams use seem to imrpove the more they wear. They're running a fine line of staying within F1 regulations (ie using dual compund tires). The people in Europe are complaining about less competition. Last year the races were dominated easily by Ferrari. They didnt seem to have too much stacked up againist them.

Yes, Mark Webber was probably happier than Schuey at the end of that one. Anyone else see Ralf go for a Flight Lesson?

and whats up with Michelin grabbing 6 out of the 11 constructors? its madness. i mean, 2 out of the 3 title contending teams are running the michelins. Bridgestone musta fucked up somewhere.

Pepz probably got pissed at the rumor that the ferrari team was getting better tires than the rest of the bridgestone teams. Besides, as long as they have Ferrari they still are the tires on the best Car/Driver combo in the world!!! I hope that Mclaren runs well this year and montoya and his team do as well. It would be cool to see more than one team have a legit chance at F1 championship. As for the Toyota team, not surprising but still impressive. You knew they weren't gonna join F1 and just be happy with a middle of the pack engine. It was awesome to see the Minardi team have a small portion of sucess too. It could be a great year in F1!!!

there might not be a battle for the top spot.....remember ferrari is still running last years car, once they get the new one it'll be all over. but look for williams, mclaren, and barichello to have some pretty fierce battles in the 2-3-4-5 spots. i'm sure every once in a while jordan and toyota will be up there as well. #### i wish i got speedvision (refuse to acknowledge speedchannel because of nascar)

actually not quite. since shu is getting the new car he has to get used to it all over again. theyre guessing that its gonna give the other teams an advantage because his driving wont be as good even though the new car has better power handling etc. i also heard renualt made an engine. 112 deg v12 with over 800hp @ 17,500rpm. and yeh toyota has the most powerfull engine on the feild. i hope montoya comes out victorious this year. that guys the shit

Montoya wont win it. Its gonna be M.Schumacher again this year. Id say that Jenson Button has a lot of potential if he smooths out his rough edges.

i'm sure schuey has had his share of seat time in the new car, i know he's driven it some, i read on espn.rpm.com that he loves the new car, but supports to start the season with the old one until reliability issues are resolved.

Yeah every rumor I've hreard said that SHue Loves the new car and the real concern is reliability! If that is true it could be all over when they get that issue resolved. I just want Barrichello to do well this year. I still love that guys racing.
