I got a 97, and the weight of the stock hood is getting on my nerves. I really don't like carbon hoods when they aren't painted so IF I get one I will paint it. So here's the question, I've searched and read a thousand posts on how great VIS hoods are, but has anyone painted there's?? I'm trying to get an idea of just how wavy they are once painted and if it's worth the trouble buying one and spending a couple hundred bucks to have it sanded and painted perfectly, or just deal with the 80 pounds of steel she came with stock. Thanks

ummm...yes I realize this. But I would like to lose some of the weight, and if the VIS hood is smooth enough that some sanding and a nice paint job will make it as smooth as stock then I will buy it. If they are wavy as hell, then it wouldn't be able to be close to stock, and I won't buy. I already know stock looks and fits the best..

just don't eat and lose 50 lbs so you can keep the stock hood on.

then why do you have a trust DD, 5Zigen wheels, and whatever-the-****-combo bodykit on yours if you feel that way? :bash:

You're so clever...thank you for you're input. Now how about posting something useful...instead of turning this thread into crap. Go find a better way to raise your post level...

Thanks Dousan, I was looking into that too. The only thing is strength. It's really lame but between my car and my girlfiends car, someone has literally ran over our cars 4 times in the last 6 months. A lot of punks hang out around here at night and at the grocery store and local bars, I guess kids are into running over cars now. They got my girlfriends car the worst, huge muddy prints all the way over the top of the car. Has nothing to do with fixed up cars either, she drives a stock 4 dr civic. Just the thing i guess. I had a fiberglass hood on my Integra and that thing would definitly crack if someone stepped on it. But I'm still considering.

I would but they're all young, doubt they are 18. If they were old enough to drive I think they would have a little more respect for another person's vehicle. At least if it were CF it wouldn't split in half like fiberglass, so I would only have to worry about repainting it. Maybe I'll find a place that selling one the is all hazy and crappy and needs to be sanded and just make a project out of it. Some places sell those things for like 100$.
..But back to the topic, I would still like to hear from anyone who has actually painted their carbon hood.
