View Full Version : Where is the wire that tells the ecu that ignition is on and to turn on for s13?

My 89 had a DOHC swap, but also looks like it had an alarm once and was removed and put back together. Where is the wire located that tells the ecu to turn on?
I think mine is backwards because the ECU turns on when the ignition is turned to off, and off when ignition is on.
Which wires could be backwards? I am assuming it must be because of the alarm being taken out, and possibly be put back incorrectly?

You need to refer to the KADE FSM for a clear illustration of that circuit. It's easy to understand.
If I wasn't on my cell phone, I'd tell you a page number.

I wish I knew more about wiring. Strangely the plug under the column that has the blue, white with a stripe, black/yellow, black/green and black/white plug, the side of the plug that is on the column, the wire colors do not match up with the side thats connected to the harness.
These wires were obviously cut and twisted back together on the side that is attached to the column.
When I wire the plug on the column to match the wires off the ignition the car turns over when the key is in the normal ON position, but the ECU gets power at the same time. If I wire it so that the wires match the plug on the harness, the car turns over at the start position as it should, but does not get power to the ECU when in the ON position.

Actually, you are incorrect. The harness connecton wires don't match from the factory. The fsm will confrm this.
it sounds like you've connected to the wrong wire. The best way to detrrmine the correct wire is with a test lamp. Round the test lamp to the chassis, and turn the igntion to the on position. Use the needle point of the test lamp to find the ignition wire. Now, leaving the test lamp on, try to start it. If it turns off, it's the wrong wire.
but the best way to get it right the first time is to lfollow the fsm.

by the way I think you want the white wire... I don't recall very well though.

The wire colors on the ignition switch do NOT match to the color in the harness. They're not supposed to. Go get another switch if yours has been cut up and wiring has been moved around.

If it is not supposed to match then it was wired correctly. It was cut up but works as it should it seems. When I switched it to where it looked like it should be it then did not work correctly so I put it back.
That sends me back to square one then though, if it is not that which is wrong, I dont know what in the world else could cause the ecu to be on when the ignition is turned off.
