had my car up on all corners, & after putting the J30 diff on i cranked the engine & my car drives in neutral. once i push in the clutch the wheels disengage, so is it just a pedal adjustment?? or.....

I know what he means
when the rear wheels are off the ground when the engine is running and tranny in Neutral, the wheels spin
Thats Normal, Dont worry about it

Can someone explain why?
I guess what you are implying is that the clutch disc is ever so slightly touching the flywheel, but only a little bit so that when the car is on the ground, it isn't enough to move the car OR stall the car out either
...but if you lift the car, it is enough to actually move the rear wheels?
Does this ALWAYS happen to all cars, or is this just something you see sometimes?
It seems like you should be able to adjust the clutch pedal and maybe their is a little bit of preload on the MC?

You need to realize that the Clutch disk is always engaged (clamping the flywheel) its only disengaged when the clutch pedal is pressed
Im no Transmission expert, so i cant say exactly why the wheels barely spin, Probably the Syncro's?

Duh, I had a temporary brain fart, busy at work and multi-tasking.
But yes, why do the wheels spin then if none of the gears inside the tranny are engaged?

im wondering the smae thing.. i noticed it one day at the shop.. i asked they said it was normal. WHATEVER it maybe im not worreid about it=] i would jsut leave be if your car is fine on all 4's i didnt move anything.

in my old car(95 dodge stratus) if I was in neutral while moving the engine would sit at 1200 rpm and as soon as I stopped it would drop to 800 rpm. I assume this is due to the same thing. Syncros makes sense.

Perhaps it is because the J30 diff is longer than the stock one, in so doing pushing the driftshaft forward .75" farther into the transmission, causing some kind of engagement or contact of the clutch that would make the wheels spin? This is just my theory on why, so don't give me "OMFG NO U REHTARD!" bullshit. Those with greater knowledge feel free to chime in.

gears are actually always engaged its just that the syncros are not, but they are very close together and you have lube between them which makes them kinda bind because lube can be sticky, for instance you place gear oil on paper and you place a paper on top and lift the paper, the second paper will lift off too. So yes this is a normal thing and there is no wear or adjustment needed.

100% normal.
If the clutch is engaged the engine's idle speed will turn the drivetrain any resistance will stop the transmission from turing, once its on the ground the cars weight provides resistance.
