View Full Version : Oil Leak on First Start of Rebuilt Engine

Hey guys just finished putting my OEM rebuilt motor back in today. Everything went very well, started up first try instantly.

However there was a rather large oil leak coming from the side of the block right in front of the CTS. There's a picture of the seal it's leaking from below.

What is behind this seal, because I can't for the life of my remember, also couldn't find it through searching and the FSM doesn't give it any name. Thanks for your help.

that's a timing chain tensioner, a new gasket is like 11-13 bucks. and you should've replaced it instead of reusing the old one. The one linked is a dual layer gasket. I've never gotten a leak on my engine again after upgrading to this one.

Yea I did change it which is why I was really really surprised that It was leaking. Now that you mentioned what it was I feel like an idiot for not being able to remember.
