Right now, i have no A/C. and it is killing me. no the reason i am posting is because my a/c button doesnt light up and the compressor doesnt come on. so i dont know if it the actual button or what. i checked the fuse and there is 12v. on each side. is there a way to bypass the button and see if it actually works or not? help!! thanks

what a dick

no a/c?
the search mode doesnt have alot because most people dont know how to fix it.
i dont know either
i would highly suggest picking up a factory service manual for your car (not chiltons junk). there is a lot of step by step stuff to check and troubleshoot

or go to a local shop and get a price quote to fix yoru ac. when they tell you what is wrong then say 'nah its ok' and do it yourself haha..

but to get recharged, i think a shop needs to do it.
but might check w/ a some local mechanics. see what the going rate is

good luck

If you're empty of refrigerant, the dash light will not come on and the compressor will not turn on.

You can get a gauge and check the level on the low pressure side - Should be about 30psi. If not (yours is probably 0) then you need to refill the system.

To refill, though, the system needs to be vacuumed down to evacuate ALL the air, then refilled with refrigerant. There are 2 types: R12, which was stock from '89 to mid-'93, and the current R134a. R12 is $5/ounce, and is hard to come by. R134a is 30cents/ounce and you can buy it at Pep Boys / AutoZone / Advanced, etc...

To convert an R12 system to R134 you need to add new oil and change a couple seals...

This can all be done at home, except the vacuum portion, which will require a special vacuum pump to evacuate the system.

Once refilled and with the A/C on, though, the lines should read 230psi on the high pressure side (after the compressor) and 30-40psi on the low side...

Good luck - Brian

Yeah when the light doesnt go on like that something is interupting the signal to the compressor. Most likely it is the dual pressure sensor detecting that you are out of refrigerant.
