Saturday night found me frantically trying to help my Miata friend (Trey) pull his 1.8 engine with a screwed oil pump and re-install the 1.6 that came in it in time for the autox Sunday. We finally called it quits around 2:30am after I managed to completely knock my knuckle off on the flywheel teeth while installing the clutch. So I offered him a position as my co-driver for the day. At first, I kicked myselft and thought it would be like watching my girlfriend get raped...but that slutty bitch just kept asking for more...it was actually quite enjoyable seeing it in action at the hands of a pretty capable driver. Of course, being used to ABS he managed to give me a couple of nice flat spots, but that's of little concern...need to get new tires pretty soon anyway. On his third run, I seriously thought he was gonna beat me in my own car--he was already ahead by 0.4 s after the second run (53.9 vs. 54.3)--he was on his way to a mid 52 s run when he locked 'em up and plowed right through the last gate...I rejoiced . His 4th and last run, he got a bit out of shape and went OC. But my car survived and wanted more, and now it was time for my 3rd and 4th runs. I cut 2 s to get 52.3 and then another .3 to get 52 flat as I powerslid/drifted through the timing lights for the last time:biggrin:...which was enough to take 1st place in Open Tire after pax!
There was actually another S13 there...but he was a newb and got last in Street Tire. And I didn't get a chance to talk to him.
There were also a pair of seriously fast M3s there.....yummy!
And a slightly frustrated WRX driver did a 4 wheel burnout!:o I really hope somebody got a pic of that.

On another and slightly related note, NoProblem Raceway (http://www.noproblemraceway.com/) around Baton Rouge, LA is holding open track days this month on the 10th and 24th. I'll be in D.C. next weekend, but depending on my tire situation and time/money constraints, I'm gonna try to make it to the one on the 24th. (hey matic, tell your Honda buddy to come on out ).

ok...I'll shutup now

Do you have a track to run on or do they setup cones? If you have a track that is badass and I am jealous cuz in San Diego we have nothin but the cones in the stadium parking lot.

Just a parking lot for autox. Sometimes they'll hold Solo Trials on a section of NP Raceway...but that's 2.5hrs away so I only go for full track lapping days.

There's some room for error in alot of areas on most tracks, but it's not 100% guaranteed that you'll drive your car home. As long as you're mature about it and don't drive over your own head trying to keep up with, say, a 500hp Saleen, you should be fine...remember, it's just for fun, not competition. Your first time(s) out you'll have an instructor to show you the ropes and make sure you don't get stupid.

A contour placed fourth in street tire class? Am I missing something? That guy must have been a #### of a driver, cause even if that was the 200hp version, I have never heard of contours being highly tossable excellent handling cars....

Yeah...I believe Ricky is a bit of a veteran. ####, last month the guy that normally drives the Saleen S351 kicked all our asses in an S-10.:o Sometimes a really good driver can make a sub-par vehicle perform pretty well. Check out the stock Eclipse RS in 2nd (ST)...but his first and fastest run (51.xxx) was 3-5 s faster than his other three...I don't know how he managed such a quick time his first time out.

The first pic in that album even has my old Z-71 in it (my dad was there in it). None of those people are me...except for the person in my car.
And here's a nice pic of that other 240 with me and a F&F Eclipse in the background.
