Alright, what the FUCK is with all these stupid banners and ads?

I remember when very FEW people in my high school knew what it even was (circa: 2003). Back then, I don't remembering Youtube having a single ad banner on their video pages. Only on the main screen. They even have it disrupting your view of the video now, along with around four other ads in the page. And that's not adding the amount of SPAM in the comments telling you to go to their websites.

Nowadays, they even have the fucking FEATURED VIDEOS taking up the space on the right instead of having related videos. I dunno about you guys, but if I hear/watch a good song/video, I like to listen to what else that artist has to offer, not "United Breaks Guitars" or some stupid shit like that.

Just a silly rant. I'm just angry at the world that I'm stuck doing homework on a Friday night due to having a Saturday morning class.

Discuss or carry on.

Youtube didn't turn a profit "back in the day".

But they got popular.

So Google bought them.

Google likes making money.

Ads.

Ads before/in videos are terribly annoying, but I knew it would come someday.
It is all about Vimeo at the moment.
Until the next authentic video website comes along.

Thats basically what happend.

Screw YT anyways, I like Vimeo.

I wish that this forum would implement my suggestion for Vimeo BBCode (http://zilvia.net/f/forum-suggestions-technical-support/236433-vimeo-bbcode.html?highlight=vimeo) tags (hint hint Admins) . ;)

YouTube has been run by Google at a loss since they bought it.
It's only natural for them to seek some form of income to help offset the high costs of maintenance.

It's not like they're charging anyone to watch videos...

cant complain here, they could charge us for viewing if they want, esp since theres billions of videos on there now, someone has to pay for the servers/storage space.

Google loses money from youtube, that's why they're bumping up the ads.

some sites, sure. but you expect me to feel sorry for the god of site traffic because they're missing out on 10 cents of ad revenue a day from me?

The real reason I have an ad blocker is the huge banner ads that have nothing to do with the content of the website.

I don't need to see boobs all over the screen when I just want to see some dude get hit in the gens.

A lot of high traffic sites use pay per impression ads instead of pay per click ads.

10 cents per ~500 impressions maybe!!

My only gripe with Youtube is that they're constantly removing vids.
Should be a rule where all vids put there are permanently stuck there.
sucks to search for an old vids, only to find it's removed.
I hate censorship (legally/commercially motivated or otherwise)

to OP if you sign in with a gmail account or make a youtube account you can turn off all the featured video or video of the day bs, there should be a little x next to them.
