Pretty much everyone in SCCA Improved Touring "S" class runs 225/45 or 50's on their race cars. In ITS class, a 15x7 wheel is the biggest you can run for most cars. Of course, these are on R-compound tires with stiffer sidewalls, so rolling over of the sidewalls isn't as much of a problem as on street tires.

I have 225/50/16 on my 16x7 fronts and 245/45/16 on my 16x8 rears. Looks pretty good too, not balloony like ya would think.

An autocrosser choosing R tires would more than likely use the 225 over the 205 on a 15x7.

For street tires, yeah, go with the 205.

yes i agree

but 95% of the people out there asking WONT be putting R tires on a street car..hence my dum dum comment :)

the problem is that they don't really make anything decent in 15" diameter wider than a 205. i've been looking for a 215-50-15 tire in any kind of high perf tire and they don't exist in anything other than R compounds.

Dum dums who dont care about handling? I'm sure given equal tires, 225 would grip more than 205.

Anyways, ES100's come in 225/50/15s.

talkin' about sidewall flex, slick.

Sidewall doesnt flex THAT much. 7in is the recommended width for 225/50.

Also the breakaway is more predictable in track driving. I'd rather have stiff suspension and slightly flexing sidewalls, than stiff sidewalls and weak suspension. Of course, I could have both stiff, but I drive on the street mostly, so this combination works best for me.

depends how hard you push the car. also depends on tire and compound. as stated, if its R compound, its another story, but most people arent running Rs.

depends on design of tire too

there's a variety of factors of course.
