depends, a few years ago I couldn't give one away
now you see one in 'running' condition go for $500 or more
your money, do what you want with it

personally I'd pull one off the junk yard and rebuild it
will be a lot more than $400 thou

I'd wait a little while and see if there are other people selling a KADE for less. If not and you need this motor badly then buy it. The price is not that bad.

Honestly i would just wait and try to find one cheaper. I got my last one for 200. You can find them it will just take some time.

Why should he, they are solid motors, LKQ wants $300 ~ for most engines you have to pull, and tgat does not include the trans.

As more and more people build or destroy the engines, prices will rise.

$400 isn't terrible at all for a good de motorset. Better to see it in the car and test it first though. It's a gamble as always.

Wait, you're in Canada

I sold my 113K KA24DE, out of a 93, for $400.
Tranny, ECU, motor, etc. Everything but the harness, since i needed it.
That motor is still running strong to this day.

I got a built kade with arias pistons, pauter rods, cometic headgasket, rebuilt tranny with fidanza clutch and flywheel. Also a b&m short shifter and oil return already welded up for 400 delivered to my house. So I would personally wait for a better deal to come around

One of two things is happening here:
1 - You're full of shit.
2 - You bought a stolen motor.

Congrats?

Call me stupid but what? Sr swaps are illegal in all states? Or just the lame ones with lots or rules like cali? I live in sc and as you may know we don't have very many laws that other states have.... or smart people.

SR20DET is illegal for road use in America.

OP: $400 is not a bad price for a good condition motor. Just make sure it wasn't abused and has good compression numbers.

As well, isn't $400 like nothing in Canada dollars?

Since the great Decline of 2009, $400 Canadian is about $395 US, however, by comparison, things in Canada tend to be more expenisve (dollar per dollar), so it is a good deal.

As for the SR legality, so what if it's emission legal in Canada, he'd still have to spend ~$2000 for a swap and deal with AC issues et al, if he is just looking for a good motor to drive with, $400 is a good price.

SR's are non-emission compliant, regardless if you emission test or not.... however, nobody gives a crap.

This is true.

And honestly, for a great condition motor. No more than 300$ IMO.

SRs are pretty common in South Carolina as there are literally no inspections of any kind. Also, I'd buy a KA for $400. I asked someone for the estimate on a rebuild since mine's pretty old and it was $1K+.

Just because you can acquire one and the state that you live in will largely overlook it -- as in down here in NC -- doesn't make it legal.

Some counties in NC are like that too... I am in guilford and I haven't even opened my hood for an inspection since 2005. You might have it a little different over in Wake(?), being the state capital and all

It really depends on region. I pickup up a motorset for 150. Engines are cheap here--just a bunch of grassroots guys with too many engines to hold in their garages.

Hell yeah, SC has no inspections and it is fantastic. The SR's are fairly commonhouse around here. and most people are selling their KA's at insanely low prices because not too many people want them. Then again, Im on my 4th s13 now and every one of my cars had a trashed KA when I got them.
