Alright first my background. I've been hunting for a cheap 240 for my first rwd experience. If I get a S13 I want to make it a fun project car....you know drop in a SR20, gut the interior, throw on some nice tires and suspension and make it a fun weekend/ autox car. If I can find a S14 I'm looking to make it a nice streetable daily driver type car. Do the basic mods, drop a motor in eventually and just have it look good.

So yesterday I discovered a black 93 240sx 5spd for sale near my house. The guy selling it is asking $2600. It has 130,000 miles and a rebuilt transmission. But the car is a little ragged...a large key scratch runs down the drivers side and there is a sizeable dent in the passenger side rear quarter panel (its a $400 fix). It also has some alignment issues. But the tranny felt smooth and the motor ran well. It's not perfect but it would make for a great project.

But there's a catch....

The seller also had a blue 95 240sx 5spd w/ 95,000 miles. No sooner did I finish driving the S13 he offered this car to me for $6500. I didn't have the opportunity to test drive this car. He told me the car should pass inspection with no problems besides a faulty speedometer. (which he offered to fix) The paint also needs a LOT of help ie: a new paint job. But the cool thing is, he will sell the car with: S15 lights, fenders, cf hood and front bumper all of which are still in boxes.

So I went from no options two days ago, to having not one but two cars offered to me. Both of which I like and both of which I have different goals for. I'am so torn! What should I do? Please someone give me advice because I need it badly!!

Wait for one with nice paint, that's huge. If you are doing the swap, engine doesnt really matter. S15 front-ends are stupid.

2600 for 130K and all that extra work:eek:   It should be around 1500 or so at most! Yea, s15 lights aren't worth it. they belong on an s15.. but thats another thread. If you could get the actual oem strawberry fenders and such, it would be pretty nice though. Keep look'n like James said.

Tell him to sell that other S15 stuff seperatly and sell you the S14 for $4500 or get the S13 + plus the S15 lights for $3000 and go strawberry face but don't put those S15 lights on the S14 please.

yeah wait for nice paint
both cars sound OK, I was in a predicament like you.

I could have bought a 240 for half the price of mine, done an alignment, tune up, paint job, reupholstered the seats, etc. It had higher mileage as well

I paid twice as much as that one for mine, although the premium price got me leather seats in mint shape, a 6 month old paintjob, old-man driven with all service records and in pristine showroom condition.

warranty was nice too

I've had time now to think about the situation and it just doesn't seem worth it. I don't need a beat car. I appreciate all of the advice. Thanks
