So a few days ago I was trying to figure out how to get the most from my oe handbrake to venture into the drifting world. I saw on ebay the inserts to stop the racheting mechanism however these didn't give me the angle I wanted or the accesibility. So like most things... I pulled out the welder. It was a pretty easy process.
1. Removed center panels. I cut the handbrake right after the portion where it gets skinnier @ a 45ish degree angle
2. Pulled out guts. The button and the spring
3. Welded racheting piece out of way so it doesn't engage
4. Welded new pipe onto 45 degree pipe to bring it to almost 90 degrees.
5. Welded small steel triangles to handbrake base to give it stability.
6. Painted with chrome paint and put rubber grip on end of handle.
7. Put panels back on.
All in all the cost put me at $0.00 with about 20-30minutes time and the results were amazing. I also tightened up the brake a little bit. With minimal effort the handbrake engages. This mod will not allow you to use the locking mechanism of your handbrake. This is not a how-to. It is simply what I ended up doing. I'm sure many would be opposed to this.
