OK, here's the deal I am thinking I want to trade my 96 240 for a brand new 2004 dodge srt-4. That car is pushing 215 hp and with like 399 more starting friday you can buy a stage 1 upgrade to push the car to 240 hp, awsome! I am looking to get something that has 4 doors as the wife and I are starting to talk about having a kid.
Should I or Shouldn't I?
What do you think I could get for my car selling it out right?
96 240sx se with vlsd/abs with 85000 miles and a small dent on the drivers side door, some minor hail damage on the hood only.
agx all the war around, H&R springs on all four corners. Injen Intake, hotshot headers, and a 5zigen border 3 exhaust and an Apexi N1 dual that can go with it. Just put on some whiteline sways front and rear, pdm tc-rods with poly bushings, and finally obx short shifter.

a family needs 4 door...
so going with neon is alright to me
in fact, going with all 4 door sedans out there is great..
family always comes first (at least for me) :D

How much does the SRT-4 run? Maybe you could get a WRX or an EVO?

Hmmmm...the car does push out some power, and i gotta admit the staright duals sound pretty mean when you start the car up. But remember the old neons...the ones that blew head gaskets after one year of driving and didn't even have a turbo! I can't imagine these cars lasting long, I also read somewhere about the transmission gearing consisting of molded plastic type gears...If you want a 4-door i'd at least check some other options first, I'd personally go for a pre-owned WRX first.

Just to add to that I installed a downpipe, exhaust, high flow cat and injen intake on an '03 WRX at the shop last week. Supposed gain of 38 HP to the wheels. Took the car for a drive to make sure everything ran fine and really enjoyed chirping all 4 tires when shifting to second!:D

I wouldn't. I know the SRT-4 is supposed to have a lot of potential, but it's still ugly as sin, and like people are saying, at the end of the day, you're still driving around in a FWD Neon.
Keep the 240. It's already got some mods in it, and I'm assuming you're not planning on stopping here. A 240 is just so much cooler than a Neon, just think about it.
If you need a 4-door, just go out and buy a used Sentra, or a Civic or something. You can use that as your daily driver, hang on to the 240, and you'll still be spending thousands less than you would to get the SRT-4.

If you can swing a New Camry or a real tight 02, I would look that direction. Much safer than the neon and they hold their value better. In S Fl, you can get one well equipped for 17K.
Have you driven a new Camey or popped a CD in the stock Stereo? The stereo rocks, the car is rock solid. Even with the Stock 4, they have some pep. You may even be able to swing it and keep the 240. I see 229 a month. then you have a sports car and a nice new car and your Wife is free because of the second car. Insurance is relatively cheap on a 4 door stock Camry.
You should test drive one. I think you will feel the difference in quality. I certainly did. Big time room too!

Just a Neon... Spoken like true "enthusiasts". How about the best all-around sport compact for under $20k? Wow, if you were in the VWVortex Car Lounge, they'd tear you a new a-hole by now. Go tell all the Neon owners running auto-x that their car sucks :bash: :bash: :bash:.

No one said neons suck or the SRT-4 sucks. They all said the SRT-4 is still a neon. Got it?
The knowledge is strong with this one.:bash:
And a Sentra SE-R Spec V is still a Sentra, right? No... The car is in a completely different league. Think hard about that one, and the knowledge will be strong :bash:.

I'd say you're right, it WAS spoken like a true enthusiast. As an enthusiast we know that all previous neon's were pieces of garbage, performance and quality wise. Very valid to say, yes it is still a neon. It's still derived from a piece of crap, although improved, I still won't give it any credit until I see it last 2 years without blowing a headgasket or tranny.
If Daewoo introduces some new turbo super car, it's "still a daewoo"....

...yeah it's still a sentra. So it's got an over-rated hp figure from the factory and a limited slip. I own a sentra as my winter car and have driven the new v-spec, still similar if you ask me. I'd take an older se-r over the new ones....the neon or the spec-v you now bring up are not new cars, they are improved versions of the same car. So what have we learned now??
old sentra se-r, a good car....new spec-v, STILL a good car.
old neon, crap.....new neon, faster but quality any better?? we'll see

They are only the same car to my grandmother. Any so-called enthusiast should realize that they are indeed very different.
Oh yeah... Those stupid crappy 1st gen Neons. They suck!

If I post the pictures of the VW bus that runs at our local auto-x's with some numbers and stripes sprayed on the side will you think that's hot too?? I guess you're right, the way that checkered flag was waiving out the window of that neon...what was I thinking?! I'm gonna sell my 240 and go buy 4 neon's now. I have seen the "enthusiast's" light....
Sounds like your grandmother knows her sh!t. Go plop down on her knee and listen to her wisdom.

Worthless argument. At the end of the day, Neons will still be crappy to you, so I'm done. It's 9:40am, a Jimmy Hoffa documentary is on the History channel and I still haven't slept. I'm tapping out.
I don't need to see your bus, either. Have fun with this pic...

1. is a STi sill a impreza, or even a wrx? is a EVO still a (usdm) lancer Heeelll no
2. the neon is not really a neon, go to the dealership and find someone who took the class that dodge gave to their stores that are going to recieve a srt 4. ask him/her what makes it differnet, besides the sport tuned suspension, 115 horse power, tourque, and all that other fun stuff that make car people, car people. i would love to drive one. i say go for it. the only thing i dont like is FF, and no lsd. . .

Still looking for the van, but check this thing. Saab sonnet. It's just a 2 stroke. It's pretty dope. (still a Saab though;) )

If your concern is 4 doors with some performance for when the wife and future kid are not in the car I guess a srt4 would seem like a logical answer. Yet I personally would go thru the vehicle inspection rather thourghly before I was convinced that the srt4 is not "just another neon". I would also look into getting a daily driver as was allready mentioned and keep my 240 as "my" car. would probably come out cheaper on insurance and payments than the neon if you pick a sensible daily driver.

What exactly was that post supposed to prove? All I see is some FF cars with nasty *** body roll. I'm waiting to be impressed.
