Long story short, I lost my key last week and it was the only one i had because the car hasnt even been insured and i never drive it. Now its time to start and I cant find the key. i have tried 5 other 240 keys to see if they work and no luck. I have also called the dealership but they say the car is too old. I know i can change all of the locks and stuff but I would rather just get a key cut. I was told by a locksmith that there is a code on the car somewhere that I can just bring to him and he will cut it. Is this true? if not can anyone steer me in any sort of direction besides taking it to a lock smith and paying out the ass to have it cut?
thanks in advanced guys.

bring your glove box in, he should be able to use that lock cylinder to make a key. AAA has done this for me in the past. my roommate broke my key in the door lock of my s13 one night when we were leaving a party, AAA had a mobile guy come out and cut me a new key right then and there at 230 am.

hopefully its a 240? otherwise it would seem a bit silly to be trying 240 keys....

thats a good idea. i read not try not to take the trunk one in because it may have a few less pins than the ignition?
does this sound true? if so could it be the same for the glove box?

i dunno about the trunk lock, but the glovebox one worked fine for me.
check with your local locksmith for more accurate info i guess.
and its way easier to pull the glovebox one than the trunk one.

the keycode is sometimes inside the glove box.

AAA Locksmith came to my house and charged $170, but AAA covers $120 of it= $50 out of my pocket
I tried getting my key code via dealership by giving them the VIN, but they only keep records for about 10 years.. so that didn't work.
IF you have the original glovebox, then the key ID should be on a sticker in that sucker.

there is no sticker inside my glove box. im not sure if its original or not. should it be visible right when i open it or behind it?

The sticker should be in the lower right corner on the inside of the glovebox when you open it.

Take one of the locks to a lock smith.....Glove box, trunk, door...ect... and he will be able to make a key....
I had it done...cost about 20 bucks....to cut plus 2 keys....

a lot of time people change the glove box..
happened to me on two different 240's
u might have to have a lock smith make u a custom key or buy all new ignition, doors and trunk locks.
