anybody know if this bumper is made of fiberglass or not. its the URAS n+ bumper. i like the style because its basically a kouki bumper with a little added on. if it is fiberglass, does anybody know where i can get a stock kouki bumper. its made out of regular ABS plastic right? thanks in advance for your help.

Yes the bumper IS fiberglass. But the fiberglass for japanese dress up kits is much higher quatliy then US kits.
Here's the comparison
Japanese VS US kits
Thin strong 100percent fiberglass VS thick fragile not completly fiberglass
Fit perfect vs a lil cuttin a lil pullin pushin the kit and screwing it down to fit
predrilled holes no need to test fit vs need to test fit and drill holes and you better get it right the first time
little to no prep work needed vs sanding it down till it's almost trasparent to get it smooth
there you have it

appreciate the info nitekids. so do you think that it would be a wise choice to get that bumper. i autocross every month, would it hold up to a few cone killings? i know you have had a few fiberglass bumpers. how did they hold up?

They should hold up to your autoacross abuse. I believe japanese company put together their kits put in mind that they will acually be racing w/ them and make them light, thin and sturdy. From my previous experirence US kits just can't hold up to the abuse for the most part. Japanese kits are have more leeway then US kits. They are partically fexiable in almost a urthane type way. I'm through with US kits. Japanese all the way.
I'm sure you may seen drift videos where driters have their bumpers zip tied and when they wreck the whole thing flies off in one peice and it is still perfectly fine and usable with almost nothing to fix except paint itself.
The price diffrence between the US VS J-Spec kits is HUGE obviousisly. Do I think it's worth it? Honestly....no. But I'll be willing to pay the more expensive of the two for trouble free install and fillament and riggidness and overall better finish of the paint w/ the japanese bumper..

I wouldn't go with fiberglass if your car will see track time.
Since you probably won't be zip tieing your bumper on, if you hit something it will crack and you'll have to deal with it.
Actually the Uras N+ bumper is quite inexpensive compared to most other Japanese aero parts. e-mail me if you want a quote.

Another route which could go like you said is oem kouki 180sx bumper w/ optional lip. But this will run you alot of money. Believe it or not over $1000 for parts alone BEFORE paint. Your everday 240sx enthusiants isn't willing to spend that much money on that alone. But benifits obviousisly is that it's completly urathane and almost unbreakable unless you drive off a cliff.

Well Richard was going to let a company copy his hot rod bumper (jdm aftermarket kouki style w/ lip) but it's kinda hard to when the bumper is smashed! But as far as I know there are no plans to make US copies of it.

hey actually a friend of mine is considering making some replicas of the body kits. he works at a pretty well known shop here in torrance to which shop i cant really say for now but i have somewhat convinced him to make two different kinds. one is the cheap material that us companys make and the kits might sell for $200 but not sure. and the other will be i believe the same quality as japan kits but those may start around $500 maybe. the prices are just a ball park price but as far as him actually making the kits already ill keep you guys posted when and if he starts making em and ill let you guys know.

If the prices for the US copy is 500 I think most people would use them same money and buy the original for that same price.

not to rain on your picnic but not all body kit companies in japan are good or even that great for instance... BOMEX vs. Cwest.. BIG difference! and in japan, they all copy each other. just cuz its from Jtown dont mean its always that great i've seen garbage come from there and im not surprised.
kouki bumper copies.. lets check eBay! and im sure other US based companies already have em.. like the URAS kit. aight yall HOlla
mixedwell ;)

that URAS bumper is only $320. a good deal in my book, even if it is fiberglass i still like the look of it and will probably end up getting that one. i didn't know a stock kouki bumper was so expensive.

FRP will break no matter where its from. The Uras one is very thin i hear (flexible but not strong). Most japanese kits ARE flexible near the lip, but that doesn't mean they hold up like plastic. In a Battle Magazine (drift mag in japan aimed more for the everyday street guy, not D1GP coverage) they did a section on street drifters and their setups with some DIY pointers and such. One of these was spraying the backside of the bumper with foam. This, especially on the backside of the lip, will resist breaking. Who cares if the bumper gets a little cracked... with this the pieces will be more likely to stay attached to the bumper instead of you "chunking" it and losing the pieces on the street. This is a good idea ofr all you guys with street-driven FRP bumpers. No one minds losing a bumper or chipping it if its at an event and there are cameras to capture the event, but man would you be upset to lose 3/4 of your front lip coming out of 7-11...

i actually dont like kouki side steps that much. i dont like how its angled...umm....like...___/------\___....if that makes sense. i like side steps to be more flowing and smooth/straight. more like OEM zenki/chuki sides, or something similar.
