Plain stock 1989S13 with Sr20det,
budget of 1500.00 what would u get?

i hope you meant 15K. With 1500 you can get a car with a blown motor. It'll be hard to find a half decent 240 for 1500.

I think he meant $1,500 in mods... :D

I was tallying up some things last night, and for aroundthat much, you could get:

Eiback Sportlines/Pro-Kit/H&R Springs (200)
Front/rear strut bar (200)
Apexi N1 Dual Exhaust (530) or HKS HiPower Exhaust (500)
Injen Intake and CA ext. (290)
K&N air filter (40)
Nismo shift knob (50) (if you drive manual, this could reduce shifting speed since the stock knob is so heavy)
Hot Shot Headers (300)

That's close to 1.5k right there. You'll add about 30-35 hp, have a nice ride, and a cool shift knob  Though if you want just power...a turbocharger is not far out of your budget...

Just added that up, it's close to/over 1.6k. You could easily find a cheaper intake and exhaust system though, I'm sure. And the shift knob isn't necessary

ARGH, I just noticed that you have an SR under the hood. Well then I can't really be of as much help...I was thinkin KA....:axe:

he is basing the mods on an s13 with a turbo already..

anyways.. Exhaust, and intercooler.

nice set of wheels and tires from japan.

Maybe I should get some rest. Umm if the SR already doesn't have some sort of 3 inch cat-back and dp on it I would get that and intercooler. If you got exhaust and dp already go with little stay strong mods like radiator, bov, tt, guages. Make sure its running in great condition before you go heavy on the mods.

What do you plan or like to do?

Drag: Use sykikchimp's suggestion

Drift,X-Cross,etc?): U se DaveSev's, but I do not think you can get a CAI or Header if you have a turbo. I could be wrong. Anyhow if I am right, then you could use the leftover money from that to get some shocks for those springs of yours.

Showoff and not use your bling bling mods to their potential: Drive the car off a cliff and get a Honda. ;)

If he is getting a car with an SR already in it, then a few of those mods won't work. Such as, the Hot Shot header, and the cold air. if you are just wanting to get your car fast, then get a intercooler, turbo timer (if the car doesn't have one already), and boost controller (same as turbo timer), and maybe 550cc injectors, and a Walbro fuel pump.

Yeah, I guess I should have read over that he had the SR.

wanting to learn how to drift, i was thinking Blitz FMIC also but it requires another radiator correct? So i wont Overheat.
Wheels? No.. maybe after i kinda get the hang of how the car or drifting.. power sliding works... so i want practice and waste on these ****ty tires..
Suspension, i want but i dont know what moderate suspension parts to look for to practice drifting..
some say Shocks with springs.. some say just whole coilover kit.

I did not go with Coilovers personally because I am being a realist. I have plenty of money and all, but was not sure if I was good enough to drift so I went the shock with springs route so I do not invest a lot in case I quit or something. Hope I do not regret it.

Got my KYB AGX's for $300 shipped and I am currently looking for a good set of springs. Thinking about the Ground Control "Coilover" Springs hoping they will give me something equivalent to a full Coilover system. I am just trying to find a deal on them because I only see them for the $400 MSRP.

You just have to think about it some more it looks like.

you want GP Sports? email or pm zilvia member ruf of reflex racing

also the GP SPORTS is NOT too streetable....12/10 KG (very stiff) non damper adj.

tein he is usually under/around 1300 if you hunt around (where i have no idea)

jic flt-a2, check the group buy forum for a JIC group buy

vlsd shouldnt cost more then 250 uninstalled.

but if you are beginner, learn drifting relatively stock, shock and springs. coilover can be a crutch because you wont learn wieght transfer as well, of cousre some of my friends disagree but its your call. i learned on coilovers. i guess i do alright.

the GPs run I THINK around 1300ish? maybe less, depends on who's selling it.

i would talk to ruf. he's da man.

The SR has enough HP`s to start with, so Coilovers and an LSD!! The rest can wait!! After that you will need to practice alot!! Track events, autocross, touge if you are brave. Things break so keep saving and upgrade slowly as you improve.

Just learn the value of USED tires. :)

Dousan_PG
06-19-2003, 08:47 AM
yeah but used tires suck at higher speeds, and size is limited. but used tire shops have the cheapest mount and balance :)

Hmmm 1500$.... thats an EASY one.

I'd get:

- 3" Exhaust and downpipe
- Boost gauge
- Air/Fuel gauge
- LSD
- BOV

If there's any left over you can either save it for broken parts or buy something cheap. All five of those things you need. Spring+shocks, coilovers, etc. can wait. You stock ones aren't going anywhere.

whiteline rear swaybar
strut tower bars (front and rear)

SR's are plenty fast. i'd do other stuff first

i'd probably get seats first - s14 seats would do ~200
VLSD - $300
springs/shocks - $400
exhaust - $400
z brakes - $500
and then spend the rest on bushings and a boost gauge.

Thx for tips guys..
like dousan and rest of you guys said.. just shocks/springs would maybe be descent enough for a beginner.
Rest for repairs and tires..

Dousan, you my friend have the right idea, like always i suspose...well i can tell that obviously alot of you have not tuned you car or have a forced induced 240...I may be wrong please no1 take my post the wrong way im just trying to help him out. Now don't buy springs and crap, eventually you will want coilovers anyway so y waste the money now? i know they cost alot but just save some and before you know it you will have them, and love it. You should get the OEM VLSD for like 250, the power to the ground will be completly different and great. for mods you should get a FMIC, Koyo Radiator, and BOV w/flange. thats about $1,516, and suspension. Of course the 3 things i listed earler are only if thats what you want, but if you want to go all for handling definetly go with the coilovers and LSD, hope this helps:D

GP Sports is 12/10?!!! I thought they were 8/6!

WHERE DO I SIGN?!

Since no one wants a good deal on my car I'm gonna keep it and keep slowly adding to it. Fuk the bills.:aw:

I say you save that measly $1500 and use it towards track time, and the repairs that will soon follow. Nothing you buy will make you a better driver other than more time behind the wheel.

You may want to consider getting an LSD for cheap, thats a nice thing to have and doesnt cost much (for a Z32 atleast).

A car that old, all the rubber bushings will be shot. I'd replace all of those with poly first before I even thought about upgrading stuff. You probably want to replace the T/C rods with adjustable pieces rather than put poly bushings in those. After that, I would get some good springs and shocks (Tein S-Tech and Koni, or something similar) and good tires. If there's enough left after that, tack on a VLSD.

I figure it's much better to have a decent though not OMG setup on a solid chassis than $1200 coilovers or whatever on a car with wiggly worn-out rubber parts all over the place.
