Ok how good are rbs in any car if the owner doesnt know the mileage and is telling you its in good condition, but he races and drifts. Is it worth the money to buy the car if the owner states the engine in good condition but doesnt want a mechanic to look at it because he knows its a good running engine. If anyone here has had this happen please discuss how you solved the problem.I am having the problem as we speak for another hatch.

Do a compression test.
Do a leakdown test.
Have someone else look at it you don't know what your doing.
Check all the essentials...turbo, vacuum lines, coolant lines

If he doesn't want anyone to check the condition of the motor just walk away, there's obviously something up.

All of this is basic information you could have found just looking through the tech section.
Next time SEARCH FIRST!

Best to just by the engine swap from an importer. Atleast you know its been in atleast 1 less car. Plus most of them are stock, which usually means less beatings.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the question. Are you looking to buy a whole car with an RB already in it? That's what I got out of the post.

Very few people know the exact mileage of their RB's (or SR's for that matter). If you don't pull it directly out of the car the motor originally came in, you can't be 100% sure. I bought my RB26 face-to-face and the guy still didn't know (not a huge deal, I was planning on a full rebuild).

As for how good they are in any car...that's a matter of opinion. I bought my RB26 because I wanted the power, but honestly I could've reached my goals (at the time) with an RB25 and possibly an SR20...but I wanted that wow factor when I popped the hood. How good/necessary an RB is depends on what you want it to do, and your budget for repairs.

Now, if the owner doesn't want you to look at it, that's a red flag...sounds like he's worried about something.

In the end, I'd tell him having it checked by a reputable mechanic is a deal-breaker. Not just with the RB, but with any car you're unsure of.

Chances are if he used the engine in one of his personal cars its beat to hell.
what type of rb engine are u interested in? is it stock?

save you all your money buy a R34 rb26 engine...stay away from the r32 gtr engines.

ok i looked at the engien of this car i just looked at who has an rb20det in it. Its all stock just painted like freakin racer would do to his. It has the monster logo all over the motor. The interior needs some work, but ive heard the engine in and out of the car and it sounds mechanically good. He raced an 05 stang last night and wont so i know its a good engine despite he raced in it. Now, He got it swapped by killswitch performance which i dont think Tyler would be willing to to come see it in his busy times. So the guy has a friend who owns a performance/repair shop that tuned his car for him who said he would look at it and make an invoice on exactly on whats good on the car and what needs to be done. Now tell me if that is a good idea to have someone who atleast tuned the car for him wouldl mean the engine is good.
