scientists propose "hella" as new big number prefix (10^27)

Scientists Propose 'Hella' as New Big-Number Prefix - US Davis physicists want to honor NoCal's scientific legacy (http://www.newser.com/story/82220/scientists-propose-hella-as-new-big-number-prefix.html)

10^27 isn't anything compared to twice that, being Nonillion (10^54). But, I assume you are posting regarding what is said about "Hella" as a slang term.

I may go ape on a person who speaks the same way as the example given...

So... Hella- + -illion..... Hellillion?? Seems unnecessary to have such a word.

Cool stuff. Hella is party of my every day vernacular and people already understand it, so whatever. haha. Azndoc noticed this when he came up.

I find this funny though. it would come in handy for eventually measuring Internet traffic and US national debt.

hella lol

and i thought this was about a company with their aftermarket horns/lights/etc.

PS - i NEVER heard an east coast person use this word once. i only used it here just because the situation presented itself.

^ I second that!

I always though 'hella' was derived from 'hell of a' OR 'hell of a lot'... any truth to this?

Aren't there more important things to worry about?

The term "hella" has been a long established norcal slang word. Opinions are still valid and there is nothing wrong with them but "hella" is part of norcal culture. I went to UC Davis and am born and raised in norcal so I used "hella" on a regular basis but a douchebag is a douchebag on his own merit, not because he uses a word like "hella" or "bro". Don't get that confused. Douchebags are people that can't make their own decisions and mistakenly follow trends to feel better about themselves. The fakers are pretty obvious to spot.

Love you? No. hate you? You're not worthy of hate. Obsession? Ah if you think its an Obsession you really are a mental moron.

Give it up Bubbles you're in the pick up league trying to compete with the major league.

I always thought it was short for 'hell of a lot' as well. I picked up on the word when I used to live in Oregon. Now that I live in Texas, I hear it every once in a while, but not too often...

The thing about hella, is that it can be used in a more versatile way than other words; you can use the same word to describe many things.
