sup
so this is regarding the gas warning light on my s14.
everything worked fine when i would start running out of gas the little gas pump light on the cluster would turn on , and i would go get gas.
but ive noticed that it doesnt turn on anymore..( i ran out of gas purposely just to check)
so i figured it was a bulb...checked it, it was good replaced it anyway but still NADA.
so im thinking is there some type of sensor that reads when gas is low? maybe my cluster is bad..
I will note that for whatever reason my gas guage is sorta messed up..If i fill it up fine it moves but will stay completely full for about a week and when im low on gas it starts dropping quick from full to empty in like 20 seconds...maybe like the gas reader thingy gets stuck on either full and when its running low drops to empty........where is the sensor in tank or fuel pump?
(its been like this for about a year which is why i sorta rely on the gas light) im never really sure how much gas i have left, and now its even worse.
I know you could say just keep adding gas, which i normally do i just want everything working properly just in case

I really have no idea WHY, but I have never, EVER seen a gas light work in a 240.
Sorry. :/

mine works ('96), but it needs a recalibration. if anyone knows the link to a how-to it would be much appreciated

Mine works and I've seen plenty of other S-Chassis gas light work.
I'm sure if it stopped working and the bulb is fine then there has to be something up in the fuel tank area. Possibly the floater thingamabob isn't working correctly.

The floater only controls the gauge.. not the light.

Really? It's not somehow related to the gas light.

The floater only controls the gauge.. not the light.
But it would explain why its not reading properly.

you could not let your gas drop that far.. when it get's to a 1/8th put 10 dollars in it.. that's what i do. but mine does work. 89..

Well my fuel gauge stopped working(gas level floater gets stuck on the metal baffle when the welds fail from stiff suspension/drifting/bumps) my gauge did not work.. but my gas light did. So i took the baffle out and now they both work. I believe there is a sensor you can test or something in there.. i forgot.. it was a while ago now.

so what is responsible for the light is correlated with the floater in tank..
any hints on how to fix....sounds like a mission.

See thats the thing, I'm not sure exactly which one triggers the light. There are 2 other sensors that could trigger it. You have the floater inside the tube for the sender, but outside the sender, there's a sensor on the side of it that could be the trigger. Also, when you open up the gas tank, there is another plug inside the gas tank that goes somewhere to the left side, that could be another sensor for the gas light.

I have to go a lot further "below E" than that to get my light to turn on. At that point I would still have plenty of gas. And, yes, the light does work. S14.

Just know how many miles you typically drive on a tank. My gas gauge is messed up. It does the stay full and then quick fall. My gas light works, but I don't like it to get that low. I refill around 300-325 miles and it anywhere from 14-15 gallons. '94.5 S14 SE
