View Full Version : Overheating or Air Bubble in the System?

I've read plenty of posts but wanted an opinion from the crowd. I recently had an issue with the temp getting up to H so i put in a new fan clutch and thermostat. It was an OEM fan clutch so it was time anyway... Seemed to fix the cooling problem perfectly, and had been holding steady just above the C on the temp gauge (I also have a Koyo radiator). Today, as i was pulling into work the temp gauge was up 3/4 of the way to H and climbing. I shut it down and sat there for 10 seconds then fired it up just to see if it'd come down, and it did. Almost immediately it dropped back to normal. So in your opinion(s) is there just some air in the system somewhere or do i have some odd cooling problem? We bled the hell out of it and could have sworn we got all the air out, i have good pressure in the hoses too. The resevoir is way full over the MAX line and was burping out a bit of coolant. (it was already over the max line before the cooling issue today).

might be your temp sensor. try switching it out.
did you run the car with the cap off to get the air out?

Yeah i bled it with the cap off and burped the upper hose, also bled it through the bleeder screw until no more air came out.
One f***'d up thing about the car is the stupid temp sender plug broke when i had the motor out so now it just ghetto rigged onto the temp sensor. the thing is though that it reads the temp fine but it has in the past fallen off and then obviously give me no reading at all. But that's not the issue here...

Change the coolant temp sensor. Its easy... Make sure you get one for the correct year and the correct motor AND the correct dash. As all the different years for SR's are all different, although looks the same, the resistance in the sensor is different and needs to be similar to the dash as well

ok, i think i'll try out a new temp sensor. This is for the KA though not an SR - i assume i don't need to worry about the dash? I'm just going to buy one from Nissan.

how about a new radiator cap - you guys think this could be caused by a bad radiator cap? (i bought the Koyo red cap when i got the new Koyo)

may as well change your thermostat too, in case it may be getting stuck. It's cheap, do it anyway.
