View Full Version : If you earned more money, what cars would you be into?

I'm talking about something believable, for example, you just got a better paying job that earns $5,000 - $15,000 more per year.

Would you still be into 240sx?

If I earned more money I would spend my money on one of the following

I'm a muscle car fan too, so I'd likely buy a 1968 Dodge Charger
Or it was a newer car, I'd buy a Lancer Evolution IX

What would you change to? If not, what reason would you have If you'd stay with 240sx?

It depends how much money I made, but if I was in the next income bracket up, I'd buy a Hyundai Genesis probably. Maybe an S15, or maybe nicer parts for my S13's.

Last year I got a much higher paying job but am still into 240s. On my 6th one, although it isnt my daily anymore.

In the past ive had a CL55 AMG and a Lotus Exige while still having a 240sx. I dont know why but it doesnt seem like I can get away from these cars...

Next car is definitely a Porsche 911 Carrera S or GT3.

I already have an evo x, and my s14
I'd just leave the cars be, & put $$$ into getting a house.

One time I was financing both the evo & a 08 civic si.
It wasn't too smart at all in terms of managing $.

I'm an engineer, so I already make good money, but I still have my 240 because I still enjoy it so much. About to start playing with my Jeep Cherokee. Right now I really wish I could find a good, cheap 911 from the 80's. The Ruah Welt cars have made me really appreciate the lines of those cars. Other cars I'd love to build:

1964 Lincoln Continental
1969 Ford Torino (Nascar/Talladega style)
1968 Camaro
240z
current gen WRX hatch (new daily)
3rd-gen RX-7

Porsche Cayman S...although, those are not out of reach even now. 2yr old versions (6sp, Aero package, with good options) can be had for $35,000.

It's basically a Carrera from the firewall forward...and they look and handle GREAT!

The problem is, most people when making some more money and wanting a more expensive car is that they are not thinking of the total cost of ownership (payment+interest+maintenance+insurance+gas+etc.).

It is very easy to forget about the REAL cost of ownership when you are just thinking about how much the cost of a car is according to payments.

Im with you on this one.

Im currently in this situation. Ive been in the market for a newer vehicle, but its just hard for me to let go my passion for the 240sx.

Ive been on the fence about buying a truck or a new 370Z. But then i start to think about the payment bullshit, insurance, reg, maint, etc . . . and wonder once again if its worth it?

At this point, im just thinking about building (yet) another 240 - lol

One for track, One for daily.

And stay happy with spending money on Modifications, and not interest & insurance.

guards red Porsche 964 C2. so no awd bullshit, no turbo. just 240hp, narrow bodied 911. gold BBS', coilovers and the loudest exhaust i can find.
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o190/dane240/964guardsredgoldbbs.jpg

they go for $20-25k right now with low miles. (89-94)

then i'd DD an E46. i am partial to imola red.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3555/3581671439_7d9e524b23_b.jpg

i plan on keeping my E30 though. and i'd like to DD a W210 on monoblocks and springs until i can get an M3 to daily.

it would have to be sophisticated/sporty. like an 'M' or 'AMG' or something like that. i would still keep the 240 and just make it a raw ass track machine.

My true love in the automotive world is pre-'73ish American cars, so, I'd be into that. My dream car is a '56 Buick Special, so I'd build one of those. No chop, frenched/shaved everything, big block, straight pipes, air bags, proper paint (some sort of deep, dark red), etc...

I'd love to have a C5 Z06 and a Lotus Exige.

If I suddenly started making 70k a year (lol), I'd keep the S13, but it would no longer be my DD, and it'd go into the garage for proper resto-modification.

saying that i had everything else i wanted at the time , and a fun car was next on the list of priorities . i would sell the s13 or part out (which ever heald the highest proffit) and i would buy a used 2005-2007 aston martin v8 vantage coupe . i see them on ebay for arround 60k . if i saved for a few years i could have 75% paid off and have a few mods as well . mainly factory upgraded exhaust and ecu tune brings the power to a bout 450ish and finish off with a nice set of wheels .

Mm, another 240SX as a track car...I'd rather track a cheap car if at all possible. Even with an E36 costs just skyrocket for both the car build and in case of junking the chassis.

Street car- Z4M coupe would be cool, the S54 engine is nice but E46 M3s don't do it for me. That unique body and simple interior is all I need.

I agree with the Cayman S thing too, would have to see how costs between the Z4M and the Cayman stack up. And drive both.

I've always liked NSXs and FDs, might be fun to own both for a while and then flip. There's so many great cars out there that I can't really justify holding onto a street car for too long. A project car that you invest time and money into is another matter, of course.

911 GT3 at some point eventually, but it might be a while before I can swing that. Depends how the depreciation curve looks, and if I'd be willing to "settle" for the ugly 996s.

I have a s14, and a truck... so next car I would want would be a comfortable luxurious daily.

Or, instead of getting another car, I might just mod my s14/truck with that money. I can think of lots of stuff I'd do to both cars with some extra income.

S14: motor swap, new coilovers, new wheels
Truck: lift, wheels/tires, i.c.e

Definately wanna get into a porsche 911 turbo in the future though...

Contemplating this further,

If I made a lot, lot more money I'd opt to be chaffeured about in a Rolls Phantom.
It's a car that really needs to be appreciated in person for it's grandeur.

It truly is an exquisite luxury to do entirely away with driving around town.

well since my pops has the hot rod scene down, I think I would move into the more VIP scene or at least have one car in that catagory. or perhaps just make something fast. perhaps an fd with an ls in it

i have bowtie in my blood. raised around V-8's all my life, my dad still wonders how i got into the "rice burner" scene.

i want to build a pro touring 69 camaro so bad i can taste it.
new front subframe and 4 link rear, currie 9" rear w/ detroit true trac, LS-1 with cam w/roller/rockers, burly 18x10f, 18x12r boze or other awesome rims with gargantuan lip...
muahahahaaaa!

the (easier/instant) alternative would be a 2010, naturally.

and of course i would drift the snot out of either one. :naughtyd:

*holy zombie thread! my bad for digging this oldie up, but i was doing a search for a camaro i saw when i was google image surfing pro touring camaros. sorry!

My dad raised me around Corvettes and 911's.

I make enough money now to afford what is very very close to my dream car, the 997 911 Carrera S. But if I made $15k more a year, I'd save that extra for 2 years and bump it up to a 997 Turbo, my true dream car.

Sold the 89 fastback I was so in love with many years ago. Focused on my career. Made more money, bought an Evo and modded it to hell. Currently runs low 12's on pump gas and street tires, full interior, a/c etc. Tons of mods in it. Drove a bunch of nice cars. Realized that I liked the 240 more than anything. Bought another 240. (S14 kouki this time) Am happy now.

i'd prolly keep my s14 and mod it as a fairly built daily that will get sideways occasionally.

then i'd have a fully built s13 coupe only for track drifting.

^^^all theoretical of course, still in school and will have outstanding debt when i get out ha

I'd probably have a 993 if I got a $20-30k raise.

If money was no object, I'd have a Bugatti T59, a 3 Litre WO Bentley, an MG J4, and a Morgan 3-wheeler.

I'd probably just have a track car and daily driver track car. Also a decent truck and then a really nice 4 door. Nothing expensive but just something nice. I'd rather be using that money into a house or something.

I'd do high end audi all day. RS6, RS5, Maybe RS10 if they so put it in production. R8 for sure. Or if i wasn't raking out of control S4 or GTI R32. That RS5 would turn heads. Even A5's are really nice.

Nice! I have been fortunate enough to own both an exige and an elise so far. I know newman also had a exige s on here. In terms of fun and bang for the buck you really cant beat it. Driving anything else just feels like a boat.

Yeah no matter what car I get I always have a s-chassis on the side. I dont know why I cant get away from it!

I'd probably still be into Datsuns, but they'd be much more awesome. I'd spend as much time as it takes to find a slant nose 930. Fuck yeah.

997 gt3 hands down

I like the GT3, I really do, but I would only buy it if I already had another 911 in the garage that my wife and son could go on a ride with me in. GT3 has no back seat = no go for me. I've got my 06 997 Carrera S, and with about $4k in bolt ons, it will be ~410bhp, which is more than enough for me. Then some good coilovers and track tires and it's 98% as good as the GT3, but still has a back seat.

Oh and whoever said Audis = lack of taste......ummmmmm, what are 240's considered? Lack of taste AND money? LOL.

you would be surprised how much ferraris have dropped in the past couple years. i noted a few around 110k around 10k miles in great shape.

you can now find a 360, cont-gt, gallardo, db9 all between 70-100k which to me is feasible if you save up a little longer.(5 yrs)

i would def buy a gallardo if i thought about buying a car in the 60-80 range.
