Have you guys seen this (http://home.attbi.com/~keithhalvorson/Picture_080.jpg)? I'm not exactly 100 percent sure on this, but i believe this car is a mix between the s14 silvia and the fairlady Z (cosmetically). Mechanically, it is just a tuned ka24de that pushes 190hp and 21 kilos of torque (however much that is... ) Although it is a Japanese car, I notice that the steering wheel is on the "American" side. I don't know if this was an actual nissan concept car that never made it to production or what?

Its a 350z concept car. that was one of the original designs for the new 350Z. I've got more info on it at home in a history of the Z car book. it was the first rolling prototype. there was one more and then the one they used.

21 kgf-m is about 155 lb-ft. That's about what I'd expect from a test mule modded KA with a stock-type restrictive exhaust and intake (hence no torque gains over a production KA).

I've never seen such detailed photos of this car! I'd heard it was an early test mule for the Z33 (350Z), but I'm just not sure.

Looks like it has R34 25GT-T brakes (12" front, 11.5" rear, with Nissan calipers). The back glass is S13 fastback; the interior is out of a '97-'98 240SX SE; many of the chassis details, the mirrors, and the door handles, are S14 parts also.

The wheelbase is shifted a bit compared to an S13/14/15, with the front suspension moved forward (note the distance between the door and wheelwell, or the relationship between the engine and strut towers). The body also seems to have been shortened between the doors and rear wheels (leading to those shortened S15 rear side windows).

The taillight panel is an interesting mix of S15 and Z32, but doesn't seem to be a production part.

If it is a Z33 test mule, then, like I said, it's an EARLY one. Given the parts content, it was probably built in the area of 1996-1997.

yeah I'll have to go back and get the details from that article tonight. it really was a parts bin car put together for a show basically.

It's an S14 with a reworked body. Probably the first 'New Z' concept.

So does that mean there is a parts bin car running around for the GTR concept?

i like it, kinda like a old school 240z, with a modern twist, i dont really like the new 350s. . .

ummmm just wondering, how did they make a prototype of a 350z with a 2.4 ka in it? Or was it just a z33 at that time?

i was thinkin about this car and then a celica passed me on my way from work today. and i began to think about the new supra. it just seems when ever a car company releases concept photos or art, they almost always disappoint. i dont remember many car designs that wasnt meet with some critisim. so i personally think that car is a bit too many cars into one. but ya i agree, why a 2.4 and why that design. the z has always been about being ahead of its time. so why reuse an old design?

I liked this line, "Engine aimed for the American market, KA24DE..."

I believe this car is the Japanese concept car for the next Z.
The Nissan engineers of Japan and US were both competing to have the most popular Z concept at the time.
There were 2 separate Z concepts before a poll was taken among Nissan employees.
The 350Z we see now is based off the American concept car.
I personally like the more obvious nostalgic qualities of this red Japanese concept.
The new "round" Nissan look still hasn't grown on me.
The final Z concept had a 200hp KA24DE and was featured in major American car magazines a few years ago.

how did they make 200hp out of a ka24de?!!!

I don't know. Ask Nissan. They made the claims.

Going from 155hp to 200hp is not that difficult.
It may be expensive due to a lack of major aftermarket support, but it's possible.
If I remember correctly, the magazine articles mentioned modified cams and crank.
There are plenty of 2-litre NA engines producing over 170hp.
I don't see why a properly set up 2.4-litre can't hit 200hp.
Turbocharging is easier than pure NA tuning.
That's why most American KA24DE tuners go that route.

That looks like it was based on an S13 chassis rather than an S14 chassis, just judging by the rear half of the car. Doesn't look all THAT bad, just out dated.
Although misc parts obviously came from S14s, it looks more like an early '90s concept car than a mid-late '90s concept to me.

Kreator - yeah sorry it was a Z33 concept. I said it was a 350 prototype since the Z33=350Z sorry for any confusion

HELL NO!! What are you thinking? Just think about this for a second..... If they would have put the KA24DE into the new 350z with 200hp.... Have you seen how many mods are popping up already for those cars? There would have been an aftermarket BOOM for KA24DE parts..

But in other respects I'm happy it got a V6

Nissan needs to start using small V8's tho! thats where the power is.

I think Nissan is getting some very respectable numbers from the VQ series V6. What Nissan could do with a V8 would be insane
