I had a similar problem once. I ended up cutting a small window in the subframe so that I can see the nut and welded it to the subframe from the inside. I then closed the window I had made and welded it shut. It only took me about half an hour. Assuming you don't have a welder, you should be able to convince a local muffler shop to help you out.

Yeah I was just thinking about that... I wonder if a Lincoln 125 will work. Also what if I leave that window there... Will that weaken the subframe?

so wait.. the stud broke and is spinning..
or the nut is stripped?

if the nut is stripped thats no biggy.. weld on a socket

Not the bolt, its the nut inside the subframe that is normally welded I guess. Its spinning with the bolt... SOB.... Thanks everyone for help!

Yeah its painful.... I am thinking about cutting a hole at the top, wrench that old POS bolt out and then also the nut out... replace nut and then just leave the whole at the top when wrench the diff back in....

My concern is if I leave a window there, would that compromise the subframe?

Also what if I JB Welda plate there? Would that be good enough?

you live in the bay area man, throw your subframe in the back of a buddies truck/car and take it to someone to weld up the nut and the flap, good as done $50 max

A small square like that would not compromise the subframe too much if anything. Do what a previous person said and weld a square in if it bothers you.

if you left the window there water and shit could get in.

Anyways, did it.... weld in a really strong forged plate... WOuldn't worry about water... There are wholes everywhere in the subframe....
