Okay, as the title states, my ecu is throwing 5 different codes, each triggering my cel. Here's all the codes I'm getting:

12: Maf.
14: Vss.
32: Egr malfunction
33: Front o2 sensor
34: Detonation (knock) sensor

I have been searching and searching and searching, which is how I found out how to check the ecu for codes, and what code means what.
I have just bought a 92 240, but from the searching I've done, I'm thinking the motor is from a newer model. There is no swirl valve on it.

Anyways, I first checked the egr sytem out. I replaced all of the vacuum lines, and cleaned everything up. Now the egr valve is functioning, but I'm still getting code 32.

I replaced the o2 sensor, with a Bosch 12046. I'm still getting code 33.

The weird thing is, that since Ive replaced the o2 sensor, when I try to reset the ecu codes, and start the car, the cel blinks all of the codes, while I'm driving. Before, when checking the codes, I would start the car up, and I would have no cel until I turned it off, and restarted it. But now, none of the codes are resetting. When I turn the car off, and restart it, I get a solid cel. I don't know whats going on. As soon as I replaced the o2 sensor, this started happening. Does anyone know why it's doing this??? Any help getting all of these codes fixed would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to pass smog, legally, but these codes, along with my SUPER HIGH Nox levels are stopping me. Please givee me any information you have on my current situation, I just want to drive my car. Thanks,

~Cody

ok so you have all these codes.

how does the car run

That's the thing, the car runs good. It's a little rough, but that's just the timing. It was Idling at like 1700-2000 rpms, and then I fixed the egr shiz, which brought the idle down to 700-800 rpms. Whenever I give it any gas at all, it revs up, and stays up for a few seconds, and then gradually comes back down, really weird.
I know you just start the car up when your checking the ecu codes on the cel, and they're supposed to clear, (which is what it was doing before I changed the o2 sensor). But now, when I start it, the cel just keeps blinking the 5 codes, until I turn it off. Then when I start it back up, it's the regular solid cel. I don't know what's going on. My egr valve is functioning good now, but I'm still getting that code. For some reason, the codes are not resetting I guess.

what ever happened to the MAF make sure its clean and disconect your entire battery positive and negative then drive it around a bit

Well, I finally got the ecu to reset all the codes, and all I was getting was code: 55, (everything is fine). So, I started it up, and revved it a few times, and now I'm only getting code: 34, (knock sensor). I'm gonna drive it around a bit, and see if I get any more codes. The only thing that makes it hard, is that its on 06 tags. I can't get new tags until I smog it, and it won't pass smog. Sooo, I can't really drive it around right now, to make sure everything is working properly.

yeah, starting the car doesn't reset the codes, sweeping the diagnostic screw again and going back to mode 1 resets the codes, like you found out by continuing to check it. :)

before you rush to replace your knock sensor, even though it's not uncommon that they fail, i would first verify your ignition timing is at 20btdc, check your vacuum lines, clean your maf, then ohm out the knock sensor per fsm and test if it's within spec.

best of luck

Yeah, for sure. I was just misinformed on how to reset the codes. I finally figured out how to get to mode 2 and back and all that junk.
But anyways, I'm gonna set the timing tomorrow, (I know it's off), and see if it takes out the knock sensor code. I know just about anything will trip that bih, so I'm not planning on replacing it. I already replaced all the vacumm lines, and got the egr working good, so I know it's not that.

I never had to deal with any of this shiz with my last 240, so I'm learning a lot right now, just by trial and error i guess.

One other thing that I'm not too sure about, is the 2 connectors hanging off the trans. They are both male connectors, and I'm not sure if they are supposed to have anything plugged into them or what??? I'm searching right now, trying to figure it out, but if anyone can shed some light, that would be dope.
Hopefully tomorrow I can get this all sorted out. It's already come a long way, in a short amount of time. I just want to drive it already, without having to duck into side streets when I see a cop.
Thanks for the help guys,

~Cody

should have vss on the tranny, the other two plugs, 1 is neutral position switch, the other is the reverse switch for the reverse lights.

sounds like you're competent enough to handle this one. keep up the good work,

Alright, thanks dude.
Uhm, ok, I crawled under my car, took a look at the tranny, and here's what I saw:

A circular plug was the farthest back, I believe it is the speed-o-meter cable. Right???
And then there was a rectangular connecter, followed by another rectangular connecter. Both were just hanging there, with nothing plugged into them. I believe one of these is the vss, (which I am throwing a code for still).
And then there is the closest one to the front, which I believe is for the reverse lights. All that's there, is the circular part, that's screwed into the trans. There is no plug hanging from it. It's just the 2 metal pieces that the wires should hook up to.
I tested the 2 metal pieces with a multimeter, and only got continuity when in reverse. So, I'm sure this is for the reverse light sensor or whatever.
The problem is, that there is no socket connected there, and there's nothing connected to the 2 other connecters/sockets. So, I'm guessing I need to find a socket, and sensor for the reverse, and the sensors for the other 2. Here's a few pictures of what I'm talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

In all of these pictures, The back of the car would be on the right hand side of your screen, and the front would be on the left hand side.

This one below, is of the farthest one to the front. I believe it's the reverse lights one. See how there is no socket on it???!!!

you are correct on the reverse sensor. it will only have continuity on it when the shifter is in the reverse position. the green and green/red wires go to that, however you can make the connection make it happen. if it means buying a new sensor so be it.

the vss is actually by the tail of the transmission on the passenger side. it's mounted in the tranny by 1 10mm nut and is located about 2 inches behind the tranny cross member.

should have a long pig tail coming out of the sensor if it's an s13, or just a plastic 2 prong receptor if it's an s14.

hope that helps
