i know this might be a bit religious but i know a few friends who are even part of the churches who do this just to do it...

and frankly i need ideas...last year i gave up coffee for the whole year for my resolution, and gave up sweets in general for lent...

this year i dunno what to do...lol

The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, and the Bishop of Liverpool, James Jones, are among those calling for a carbon fast for Lent -- a period ahead of Easter which Christians traditionally consider a time of penance and reflection -- which begins on Wednesday.
As well as spending a day without using technology such as mobile phones or iPods, the 46 daily suggestions also include eating by candlelight, cutting meat and vegetables thinner so they cook faster and flushing the toilet less often.
"Instead of giving up chocolate for Lent, why not fast for justice ... to help those suffering from the effects of climate change," said Jones.

I'm not trying to shit on your thread. I just don't understand the significance of it today.

I did google Lent and fasting. I know how and why they did it back then. It was done for practical reasons related to agriculture practices and food supply. It was also done for weird sexual reasons. Apparently when the body is well nourished there is a greater surplus for seminal matter and that leads to lust. It's 40 something days because Christ spent that time in the wilderness.

What I still don't understand is why we still fast. There's no logical/practical reason for doing it other than tradition.

So instead of being an ass, maybe you can enlighten me. I honestly don't know why or what the purpose is.
