The chasis code for the car (Toyota Trueno) in Initial D is AE86. It is Japanese: Hachi = 8, and Roku = 6. They call it 8-6 for short.
IIRC, they tell you that in the anime.

Yeah, just the chassis code for Truenos (known in the US as the Corolla GT-S).

well, i knew it was describing the trueno. so how come it only caught on for the AE86? didn't they call the R32 a "32"?
where's that "dumbest post ever" pic when you need it?
For the sake of upping my post count legitimately, yes; they call R32s "san ni"s and R33s "san san"s and S13s "ich san"s and 180sxs "van-eeeghtee"s... I think they call RX7s "onigiri"s... which stands for riceball.... :) I'll let someone else explain.
I'll add AE85 = "hachi-go".
In HK, 180SX = "fei gai". Means "flying chicken". Something to do with the knickname of a popular street racer, but I can't remember... Can anyone add to the story?

A 1986 Toyota Corolla is called a "Hachi-Roku". "Hachi"=8 and "Roku"=6.
An S "Ichi-San" or S13 is also referred to as a "Silbee ah" or "Silvia" RARELY (if ever) will a 180sx be referred to as an S13.
An S15 is referred to as a "Strawberry Face" as "Ichi-go"=strawberry.

That's a homonym, i.e. "tail" and "tale" in English. Synonyms are words with the same definition, i.e. "heavy" and "massive".
Ichi-go is "one-five"; jyuu go would be "fifteen".
Strawberry = S15
Strawberry Face = S15 face (on another car)
Got it?
Dammit. Thanks. :bash: I are stupid on both counts.

I still say that S15's have S15-faces. Isn't that somewhat implicit? There's a drift team called 180-face, which includes onevia's but also 180SX's thereby implying that 180SX's also have 180-faces. <nelson>HAha</nelson>
edit: I actually wouldn't say it. It sounds dumb. But it's still true. :p
