I'm in the process of installing an sr20det into my 89 240sx. The problem I'm having is with the starter. I can't get it to engage. At first when I hooked up the harness and tried to start the car it would try to turn. Now, it won't do anything. I've checked all the fuses and relay's and can't find anything wrong. When I turn the ignition, I hear a click and that's it. I've checked the power wire to the starter and it's good. When I take a screwdriver and touch the power connection on the starter with the other wire it turns over, so that tells me there's nothing wrong with the starter. The only left that I can think of is a bad ignition switch. Anyone have any idea's or does this seem to be correct. Thanks for your help.

Battery cables again....and then see if the starter runs on the bench like a bat out of hell. Use a boost charge when trying to start as well.

The ignition switch is good, no need to look there.

You may have a bad starter actually.

My best guess so far...but only a guess due to vibe, not being there.

hearing just the click is usally a dead battery.. If it's not dead, definately double check all your connections, and make sure they're clean.

The battery is new, but just to be on the safe side I tried to jump it and still nothing. I've looked at all of my connections and so many times that it's not even funny and can't find anything wrong with any of them. Could the wire that runs to the starter (not the battery lead) that seems to be like a remote wire be bad. I've traced it back up to the plug that it connects to at the fuse box (by the battery) and still can't find anything wrong.

if you try to start and it just clicks it's probably the ground. I had the same problem when I tried to use a relocated battery to a crummy chassis ground. "*click* *nothing*".

Yours was working fine and then all of a sudden nothing too. Just sounds odd. As far as grounds go, that was one of the first things I looked at. If I have to get a new starter, where can I get it and are there any usdm starters that are compatible?

i dont believe there are usdm starters that are compatible with the jdm SR20det but im not 100% sure you can take a look at the Infiniti G20's older models i believe like 91-94 they have sr20de engines and you can probably use the starter on the older model G20's...but this site you can get a working starter this is where my friend got his... kinda pricey.. but check out the Infiniti G20 starters cause there using the same engine.

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum. I didn't realize it until I'd already posted it.
