View Full Version : Anyone made their own swaybar endlinks?

The only company that I see that makes SOLID swaybar endlinks is SPL.

They used to make front, and now they don't.....now they only make rear, and they cost $250.

Normally, I am always willing to pony up the dough for quality parts, but in this case, this just seems a bit steep.

I am currently using OEM endlinks with ST poly bushings.....I don't like the way that when I am tightening them, it is hard to tell how much is "too much", because the poly is so damn compressable.

I am looking for a more responsive setup.....SPL's links (rear) look like this:

That's the biggest pic I could find in google, but you get the drift....heim joints connected, and free rotation prevents binding, etc.

I also found this website, which sells heim joints and other type parts:

Rod Ends, Heim Joints, Sleeves (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/rod-ends-heim-joints-sleeves.html?category%7Ccat_2%7C154=Suspension&category%7Ccat_154%7C107=Rod+Ends%2C+Heim+Joints)

Has anyone fabricated these on their own before? I feel like you can make a similar-quality link as the SPL one for less than half of the price.....

Anyone know where to come by the U-shaped steel brackets on the ends of the links?

Thanks.

Progress sway bars come with nice front and rear endlinks. I wonder if they are willing to sell just the endlinks. It'd be awsome if they do.

I just looked, and yes the endlinks do look nice....

Only question is how the holes of THEIR sways are....

I believe OEM and Tanabe are such that on the rears, the holes in the sway bar face up and down (requiring a straight link) and the holes on the front sway face side to side (requiring an L-shaped link).

Yup I did.....

I do it sorta like the old bmw ways...

hardense 1/2 bolt about 7 inches long, bushings, washers and nuts and a pipe.....

bolt | washer | poly bushing | sway | bushing |washer | pipe tube | washer | bushing | arm | bushing | washer | hardened nut to lock it all in....

I just make sure the sway is as paralellel to the arms as possible......

Caveat is that my ST's wholes line up directly over my arms pretty much

WOW... You really wanna get rid of the bushings? I personally wouldn't just in case there is binding metal during the movement of the arm to the sway, as the sway actually pivots.... You can go for something really stickk like urethane bushings, but you need something to space out the movement, so the sway bar can travel....

Just use high quality stuff... I use all Grade 8 hardened stuff, won't bend, won't break, won't rust LOL....

it's hard to tell in the pictures, but i think the heims that he posted appear to have misalignment spacers so they don't bind.
