are you serious? HAHAHA who ever wrote that article is ignorant. Asimo can calculate traveling direction and speed, predicts forthcoming movements of oncoming people, and choose the best path so that it wont block anyone. Plus it has FACE recognition. When it's running out of batteries it goes to the charger by itself and gets charged. I can be on missionary mode with a gurl and ask it to bring me the KY and some chocolate while it's recording me. This fool here can't even walk!

Yeah I would have to agree it was silly to compare this to the Asimov.
From the article & the vid, it would seem like the two robots serve different purposes.

I don't know how practical this project is,
but if GM/Nasa can use further robotics to increase workforce efficiency & reduce overhead, then more power to them.

Amazing technology!

Now only if they would finish the rest of the robot ( legs ) and not treat it like an automobile with out thorough QC.

I'm sure it's a work in progress.

well, i'm paying for it, so it BETTER be better than a robot developed by a private firm 5 years ago.

edit: this is a ASIMO knockoff, don't support knockoffs.

i use to work for the production company that set up the ASIMO shows. this thing doesn't have shit on ASMIO. yea it might have better movement but cant calculate 99% of what ASIMO can. This GM powered robot is awesome because he has allot more physical movement. Plus ASIMO can have full on conversations and gets to know poeple also can remember you.

funny thing is GM is in the shit's and there spending money on this lol.

depends.

if they can actually use the robot to replace human labor, AND it's cheap,
I can see how this would make more $$$ for the company in the long run.

plus, it's a collaboration between GM & Nasa.
no mention of amount of money funded.
no mention of how much of that money was funded from Nasa or GM.
also, results of the research could benefit Nasa as well.

If anything, Toyota's robot has nothing at all to do with automobiles.
The Asimov's technology are also irrelevant to Honda's products.
(unless they plan to build something like a robo-chauffeur/chaperone)

Unless it's some outrageous amount coming from GM, they've done worse.
(such as past super-bowl ads)

Yes, I'd imagine this would be used for commercial tasks.
The Honda/Toyota bots are more suited for house-hold, or admin (at best) chores.

Come on now, that thing has obviously been in production for a LONG time. And a company like GM needs to constantly stay at the cutting edge of this kind of technology. You of all people should know that if you were involved with ASMIO.

well if you're talking about movement then the BIG DOG owns... Now if you're talking about espionage the brainwashed insect is best =0P

yea this thing is awesome. the main reason this thing is in development is to be a work horse. It was stated in the video that they want to use this on the space shuttle if they combined R2's mobility with ASIMO's brain it would be insane. Being involved in this was awesome i got to dig up some pics and scan them in. I was working for Showtrends INC the main production company that set up all the sound and video for the ASIMO tour also did allot of stuff for GM at the 2004 - 2005 - 2006 detroit auto show. The company i worked for made bank off of GM and still dose.

isn't the Honda robot like 10 years old?

i think Honda hasn't been to the moon because they are an automobile manufacturer, just maybe.

It's probably outsourced, Made in China.
Notice the fighting stance, only Wong Fei Hung, stands like that.
