Universal revs up another 'Fast and Furious'

Diesel, Walker will return for fifth installment

Universal Pictures is hitting the accelerator on a fifth installment of "Fast and Furious," currently being referred to as "Fast Five."Studio has closed deals with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz to return to the franchise, which has become one of the studio's most lucrative.
Diesel and Walker sat out the third chapter in the series but returned for last year's fourth installment, which was the highest-grossing "Fast and Furious" film and Universal's top grosser of 2009. Its box office haul was more than $350 million worldwide.
Chris Morgan is writing "Fast Five," marking the third time he and Lin have teamed for a "Fast and Furious" film. The story finds protags Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) as fugitives being pursued by relentless lawmen.
Lensing will begin later this year for a 2011 release.
Original Films' Moritz has produced every film in the series, beginning in 2001 with the "The Fast and the Furious."
Universal's Jeff Kirschenbaum and Franklin Leonard will oversee the project for the studio.

Should be entertaining to watch, just like the first four. Not good movies but, entertaining to watch.

None of the F&F series was an example of great cinema.
3 was just the most well made of the lot, & it raised the bar somewhat.

Then again, the F&F series were meant to be $$$ making popcorn-fare
(which I totally respect & support).
F&F 4 might not have been a critical success,

Look at the dialog from movies like back to the future and jaws.
Almost everyline and conversation has something to do with the plot and will be important later on.(this is called bookending. something said early on will be wrapped up).

now days, the dialog is just a bunch of talking that has nothing to do with anything, then they will blow some shit up in 3D and everyone is stoked.

The movies are entertaining for sure, but like others have said, I kinda have to turn my brain off if I want to be able to watch them.

However, I don't see how any of you can hate on these movies. They have been excellent at keeping the value of our cars slightly higher. And while I'm not sure how it is everywhere, at least in my area, cops don't fuck with tastefully modified cars for no reason. So really, just the posers who have been influenced by the movies get to enjoy the higher prices on 13~22 year old 240's as we move onto bigger and better things. Additionally, they usually make it easy for a true enthusiast to spot and avoid them anyway.

i don't think they're actually aiming for the American viewer. They've made it so in America it does eh....so-so....but worldwide is where they get their numbers. Especially since it's being filmed in Brazil, it shows the indicator that they're aiming for world wide.

It's probably going to be another "Vin and Brian running from the law. A drug cartel guy gets involved again and they get him caught while strengthening their relationship as life long friends."

While this is all fine and dandy, I want to see some god damn cars! I thought f&f 1 was cool because each character was associated with a car. It was kinda like Pokemon, just with cars. It's like Vin's pokemon (rx7) evolved into a Charger and Brian's pokemon (eclipse) evolved into a supra. I thought that is what was cool with the first one. Starting with the second one the cars kinda took a backseat with the characters and shitty story trying to take the lead.

I've seen, and enjoyed, all of the franchise.

One thing I do wish they would do is go back to the old formula. The first movie was 75% cars, 25% action/crime movie but each successive installment has worked towards reversing that. This one looks like it's gonna be about 80% action/crime and 20% cars.

i think the best one was the first one....they captured the scene back then. plus they had really nice cars....240sx, R33, Maxima, RX-7, Supra....and then civics, integras, del sols. those car were pretty cool for that time...

Which leads us to this newest movie, where they call in their buddies, Tyrese, Ludacris and Han to pull one last job before they disappear and Han goes off to Japan to die in Tokyo Drift. The movies are all in the correct chronological order except for Tokyo Drift. It should be at the end.
