well...i tried for 6 hours to get my scirocco started. it's been dead since last september but i want a motorcycle so now i'm motivated to fix it. it started for about 2 seconds, and then i couldn't get it going again. it's mechanically fuel injected (Bosch CIS-E) so it requires tuning almost like a carbed car. the problem is that i cant get it to get the right mixture upon start up, but that requires me turning a screw to get it dialed in. unfortunately i don't really have a way to tell if it's not starting because it's rich or lean. to top it all off, the battery is shot (although sears says it isn't :bash: ) so i needed to have my 240 idling next to it the whole time when i was trying to start it.
grrrrrrrrr....i just want it sold. must...get...GS500. :wtc:

To make a car run...all you need is...
Proper timing.
Compression.
Spark.
Fuel.
Power supply (alternator working)
Look if you are getting all of this at the same time.
They can be $hitcans and can be fun cars. I hate the front brakes and shafts....but then again, I am not a FWD junkie either.
Look at all this.
If it is all happening, it will pop off and run.
Buy a new coil. clean the spark plugs, put a can of techron in it, clean the wires (spark plug cables) and clean the battery terminals up. Clean the distributor contacts too. Clean the plugs.(second time I said that actually) Spray the relays with contact cleaner/
Drain all the gas, use a dryer agent and put in fresh fuel. New fuel filter.
I bet it will run after that.
Like a scolded A$$ed ape.
Sciroccos are THE ****! don't sell it for a lousy motor bike on which you will end up killing yourself before you even get your license... keep the 'rocco and put a 20v 1.8T in there... and get ready to rape some -(insert exotic sports car name here)- ***!

no way would i consider keeping this thing. the year i was driving it daily was the worst year of car ownership i have ever experienced. even my twin carbed 16v rabbit was more reliable than this POS. it had lived a HARD life before i bought it - i had to replace basically every charging system wire, alternator, cooling system, power steering, brakes, about 10 different senders, fuel injection air metering unit, timing belt + tensioner, blah blah blah....
my nissan is the most reliable car in the world in comparison (well, actually - it hasn't done anything bad to me yet :) )
i will admit though, it's fun to drive. neuspeed race springs, sways, and exhaust, koni adjustables, and the vw 16v engine is a really cool engine when it's running right (i've had 3 cars with them :) ) but i only have time and space for one car, so she's gotta go.
