Half Shafts vlsd vs open

Are half shafts interchangeable?

can I use open half shafts on a vlsd pumpkin

I'm thinking that as long as the bolts match up, I should be fine right? or am I missing something?

they won't work, LSD half shafts and open are different

They're called output shafts. The axles are the other half of the equation, and they can be swapped yes, but the pieces snapped into the diff cannot.

I have a VLSD with 6 bolts.

In the picture below, I want to know if the 2 things on the far left with the boots on can be swapped between a VLSD and Open diff.

-yes you can interchange the axles between open and vlsd rears.. As long as the output shafts and axles are both 6-bolt. Ive put "open" axles in my friends 240 and he had a vlsd rear with no issues.

You can 'interchange' them because they're the exact same. There is no difference between an axle for a manual, auto, open diff, or VLSD.

Again, learning the proper names for parts really helps when you ask questions.

OR any 5 bolt to another 5 bolt.
Im pretty sure this goes for damn near any nissan Diff. made in the early 90's
R200 is pretty universal.

Wrong.

Nissan did used the r200 in many cars. However the axle length is diff. Go put 300zx axle in a 240sx - WONT FIT.

Maybe supra axle fit as they are bigger and more jdm f&F. Also maybe the the rx7 one fits too. STI and EVO rocks.

A few of them interchange; you're right. But not all :)

S13/S14/J30 are all the same length, just match up 5 or 6 bolt. I would imagine that some of the JDM cars (Cefiro for example) probably use the same axles too, but I can't confirm one way or another.

I am triying to put my 300zx n/a axles on my S13 someone told me that the small axle works on the driver side of the S13 and the longer one has to be cut 1" and made the spline. Output shalfs between open diff and vlsd do not interswap between S chassis or Z chassis. This means you can grab a 6 bolt from a S chassis vlsd and put it into an open diff, and you can grab the half shaft of a Z32 and put it into an open diff. Lengths of the splines are different.
However, 6 bolt axles to interswap between S chassis only regardless of vlsd or open diff. Z32 5 bolt axles to not transfer over as they are too long.
