while building my sr i had the oil pan on and timing chain guides on with the oil pump but realized that the head needs to be on the motor before doing any of the timing and cant even have the oil pans on before putting timing on is this true? or is there away around having to have everything off and not have to wait on the head?

Put the bottom end to TDC, put the chain on, match the marks and installe the oil pump cover. The oil pump cover has a notch on it that will keep the chain in place to the crank and wont let it fall off or skip. Continue assembling the rest of the bottom...oil pans, crank pulley, etc.

put in ur head studs AFTER u put the head on the motor...SR's were originally equiped with bolts....bolts go on after head is on the block....its designed that way...so the studs u have..HAVE to go on AFTER the head is on the block.
