So this is a quick Q and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post such a small question but I'll do so anyway.

After many days of drilled and tapping, I've finally taken out my stripped transmission drain bolt. To my surprise I found something inside the tranny...

It was a circular magnet. This isn't part of the tranny right? I was rimming out the hole in the bolt and was paranoid that I might hit/ruin something "all up in there" so I'm just asking to be cautious.

Question 2: I have a new magnetic drain bolt for tranny, but it's not all that strong. Do you guys think I could just clean off this magnet and stick it back in there near the plug?

That magnet is probably off the bottom of the drain plug itself. Nothing to worry about. It's really amazing to see how venerable transmissions are, you can damn near put rocks in there and they'll be fine.

that magnet is part of the bolt. If you drilled it out. you probably pushed it into the pan.

get a flex head magnet to fish out whatever you can. and next time weld a 1/2 extension to that bolt.. then heat the housing up.

What they all said, the magnet is part of the drain plug. Differential is the same way.

You can get these things at carquest/napa/autozone etc etc as well (for those not looking to buy online/shipping).

I'm a lazy mofugga though, and will probably chopping down some 5/8 bolt and welding it in...no worries about not having the tool then haha.

How dare you say that. Maybe wrap a rag around a .5 socket then. :hyper:

along wiht what everyone else said, there is also a screw that holds the circular magnet onto the drain plug.

that little screw is either still in your tranny somehwere or it fell out and you didn't see it...definitly sift around your drained tranny fluid (if you still have it) and see if you find a little screw. you do'nt want that floating around in your tranny.

It's the tool that you're actually suppose to use for this. It might not make to much of a difference if you already have a fucked up drain bolt, but with a new one it works like a charm.

A new magnetic drain plug will find it as well, once everything is in there.
